======================
I've had an idea. Let's decide who the greatest players in Avalanche history are.
  • You decide what "greatest" means.
  • Only judge players based on their Avalanche careers. This means no extra points for Sakic's time with the Nordiques, or Ray Bourque's time with the Bruins.
  • Poll will be open for a few days.
  • Each time you vote, suggest a player who should be added for the next round.
  • If there's no consensus on who should be added I'll just pick the next player who's played the most games.
  • Here's a list of everyone: Colorado Avalanche all-time player list at hockeydb.com

Tough choice for me between Crazy 8 and Deader. Went with Ozo this round, will vote for Deader next. I think it's time for Danny Hinote to enter the game.

Varly still, add Duchene I guess. He was an important player for the franchise, like it or not. Still top 10 in points in an Avs uniform. He may have been the cornerstone of a failed rebuild but he should be on here fairly soon.

If only I would have known you spelt Rene wrong, I would have voted for him.

Want to say add Yelle (get the other 2x Cup Winners on here) but I guess Hinote to try to counter the Duchene crew

Edit: We going to get another one where now Deadmarsh and Ozo do some vote splitting to get Varly in (or closer than he would be)? Wildly underrating Deadmarsh here

Edit 2: Add Yelle - finally got enough other backers for him to not have to strategically vote otherwise

I don't know how I feel about EJ on that list. Yeah, he was here for a long time and bled burgundy, and he got his Cup and he's a big goof, but he was also pretty f***ing frustrating and overpaid for a lot of it.

Can’t believe Yelle is not on that list
This one is crazy. Hard fail that we just all didn’t say who to add and Cloudy got in ahead of him by default (most GP not on the list)

I have the feeling a lot of people here are too young for the 96 run. I watched it and am old enough to remember but not so old that I understood it on any sort of level to be able to pick out key contributors this long after

I'll vouch for EJ deserving of that spot. Sure he was rough from 2020 on, but before that he was a much better player than we give him credit for now. He was a warrior for this team and the longest tenured player in Denver sports before this offseason. EJ is an Av for life and of the top 15 he is probably the next to have his number in the rafters at Ball Arena.

That's ludicrous. The rest of it, okay yeah.

I was one during the 96 Cup run. I've seen it on video. But McLeod being on there before at least a handful of people is a travesty (before Duchene is fine, whatever).

There’s a pile of other guys who never won anything either that belong ahead of McLeod. Never mind all the actual Cup winners. I actually like him better than many of them but not enough to homer vote him ahead

McLeod is in the poll right now because I said I would and because there was no real consensus on who to add from the last thread. Just because he's on the poll doesn't mean he's getting voted in next. Poor Ozo's been there for weeks.

I still think Varly is underrated here just due to the era of the team he played for. He was a fantastic goaltender and easily the 2nd best in Avs history who carried some bad to mediocre teams on his back. Just winning a cup with the team shouldn't be an automatic add before him, IMO. It certainly wasn't his fault the Avs didn't contend in that era.
