I am not arguing that Pegula wasn't responsible for the jumbotron... he is responsible for everything inside the building... But you stated that it was obligated to be done. It wasn't.. Pegula didn't have to replace it.

What hoops am I jumping thru? The actual Erie County Executive ..who also gets paid by Erie County..flat out stated that the County is responsible for the shell of the arena. Case closed.

Now the reasons the Pegulas decided to take on the roof? Idk.. I would venture to guess it wasn't out of the goodness of their hearts. I am assuming they got more money from the county for the Bills stadium or something like that..but it is clear as day they were not contractually obligated to in terms of the lease.

He said that the county owns the shell of the arena and the city owns the land. He didn't say that the county was required to fix it.

The county gave no money for the roof or scoreboard.

Poloncarz said that Erie County owns the shell of KeyBank Center, the City of Buffalo owns the land on which it stands and the Sabres are responsible for the upkeep of the building. He confirmed previous media reports that the Pegulas, who own the Sabres, have said they would foot the bill for renovating the arena’s roof and said that taxpayers would not be on the hook for those upgrades.

I mean I don't know what to tell you..it is right there on video... His exact words are "the team is responsible for the upkeep INSIDE the building."

To be fair, he did. For multiple years.

The Pegulas have probably lost more in operating expenses of this team then they spent on purchasing this team.

The problem is, the only way to fix what ails the team is spending. Spending on the front office to get experienced people. The training staff. The facilities.

The thing that is frustrating is the Bills are a model franchise and do all these things. Yet the Sabres are an embarrassment. And I think its mostly because the Bills are self sustaining and the Sabres are bleeding cash like a stuck pig and the fixes have to come directly out of the Pegula family coffers.
Sure, they spent along with the league for some years. I guess they deserve credit for that? Their paper net worth has also doubled to $7B+ since they've owned the team.

My point stands - Boomers I know who are worth a couple million bucks blow 10-20 grand on gas for the boat every summer. They buy gear, supplies, travel for their hobbies. He bought a toy, he should spend to equip the toy to get enjoyment out of it.

The fact that his toy can profit if operated properly is a bonus. But maybe the only guys who get rich enough to buy a franchise are too neurotic and myopic about the bottom line to ever take it out of the packaging and play with it.

The sports world needs more owners like Mark Cuban.

All good points...but i think when Pegula bought the team it was his toy... after years of playing with it ..seems he has grown bored of it and is now just one of those things sitting in his garage..gaining value for later down the road for either himself or his children.

I think he is just disinterested and hope he hands it off to either his daughter or sells

Yeah I don't think you're wrong. It's just lame.

I picture him like a Pharaoh being entombed with a gold plated fully staffed pro scouting department and a roster to the cap.

Can't take it with ya, Terry.

To Our Valued Season Ticket Member,

Now is the time of the year when you have come to expect a letter asking you to consider renewing your Season Tickets. As we begin our campaign this year, we want you to know that on behalf of the Pegula family, we have spent the season listening to your feedback. When you express your opinion through one of our surveys or directly to your ticket representatives, we hear you loud and clear. We are taking all of your feedback into account and are using the information to take a fan-centric approach to the changes we implement in the coming seasons.

With that said, we have carefully reviewed the primary concerns you have expressed and want to make sure we are addressing each of them as we look forward to next season.

Season Ticket Value

Not surprisingly, ticket pricing is one of the main concerns listed by our Season Ticket Members. We know that the value proposition to attend games is a careful balance for you. To that end, we will not be raising ticket prices for any Season Ticket Member who renews by the early bird deadline this year. While we already have some of the more affordable tickets in the NHL, it is our desire to be accountable to our most important customers and knowing the expectations you hold for the team, your pricing will not change for next season. We are proud of how the team has performed at home this season and hope you have enjoyed many of the marquee nights, such as Rob Ray’s Hall of Fame Induction. Next season we will continue to find ways to celebrate the team and the heritage of the Sabres.

Concessions and Merchandise

We received substantial positive feedback on our 25% discounts that we implemented this season on concessions and at the Sabres Store for members. This is among one of the top discounts for members in the NHL, but we understand that you continue to look for value when attending our games. To expand upon last year’s program, next season we will be unveiling a value menu at select concessions locations throughout the arena exclusive to Season Ticket Members that includes some of our most popular items. We have seen the popularity of this concept at other venues across the country and we are excited to implement this at KeyBank Center for next season. We will also continue to offer the 25% discount on all other options at both concessions and the Sabres Store. We value your feedback on our offerings and will continue to work with Delaware North to create more unique options while ensuring that every fan in our building receives high-quality products and service. We know how important this is to the overall experience, and we will keep listening and striving to improve in this area.

On-Ice Performance

Organizationally, this is an area we want to see improve as much as you do. Even with our strong play as of late, we know you are disappointed in the way the season has unfolded overall and so are we. I want to be clear that the Pegulas are completely committed to this franchise and will do and invest in whatever it takes to develop a team that you are proud of. As an organization, we remain steadfast in our belief that we need to build for long-term success. We believe in the vision and feel we are right on the doorstep of where we want to go. It took some time at the start of the season to adjust to a new system, but as the year has gone on, players have adapted well to the schemes Lindy has put in place. Our scoring has improved significantly, currently leading the league in first period goals and with overall 5-on-5 scoring being amongst the top of the league. The penalty kill has taken massive steps and we are winning at home. Young players have continued to flourish while still showing consistent signs of growth and our off-season acquisitions are contributing in significant ways.
A Look Towards the Future

Additionally, our team in Rochester is at the top of the AHL and showing promise that our plan to draft and develop our own players will pay off in the long term. That said, we know that it has not been enough and that we need to keep developing our players and building the roster so we can compete at a playoff level. Kevyn, Lindy, and their staffs are working tirelessly in an effort to improve our team. They will continue to evaluate any and every option until we can consistently compete at a playoff level, and are committed to finishing this season strong.

Please know that as we continue to evaluate every aspect of our organization, this is only the beginning. Not unlike adding the new videoboard last season, we are looking at every part of the arena and fan experience to make your trip to KeyBank Center as high-quality as it can possibly be. One thing we know for certain is that we cannot do this without you. It is obvious how special this team is to you, the city of Buffalo, and all of Western New York. It is our hope that by listening to your feedback, you understand the value we place and the appreciation we have for the financial and emotional commitment you have made to our organization. Rest assured we will continue to listen and explore ways to improve your experience in any way we possibly can. While this process continues, we would like nothing more than for you to continue to be part of the team.

Thank you for your considerations and Let’s Go Buffalo!

get a winning team on the ice. all the rest is bullshit, and STHs should give them a big middle finger.

The On Ice part should be chilling to all here. They do not realize you can’t build long term success through the draft. You can acquire assets, but pro sports is cyclical. You have a run and retool. Without a bonafide superstar, with the possible exception of Dahlin, your asset base as it stands is on the doorstep of nothing. Your vision is wrong. Unless there is serious rethinking of what it takes to compete for championships you are looking at another 2 to 3 years of waiting on hope only to realize the other parts need to upgraded or replaced. This sounds like there is complete confidence in KA and the process in place to wait to luck into a change in outcome. No bueno.
