Hard to believe Homer still has a job. This is the kind of decision making we will see under Robitaille.

Some are saying Lombardi will be the next GM and Q will be the next coach. Bold move for sure if that happens, but I doubt Dean displaces one of the people he has mentored. I have been wrong before though.

Thought this might deserve it's own thread given Hextall and Lombardi's connection with the Kings during their most successful era ever.

Philadelphia Flyers fire Ron Hextall after tough start to 2018-19 season

Don't see DL as GM, and haven't heard any of the local reporters indicating that, rather that they want a GM who can incorporate what Hexy did, as far as drafting but keep his hand on the pulse and make trades and moves that benefit the club.
Q won't sign here, he wants an active role in personnel moves, and I don't think a new GM would go for that. Also, Q won't rush, doesn't have to. He will have his pick , when he wants, and I think he'll wait at least until summer if not longer.

There was a rumor over the weekend, that Haks wasn't fired because the coaches they approached were not receptive (supposedly Q and Vigneault) .

Time will tell. GM answers to the club pres, who answers to the owners. Apparanently (Via Bill Meltzer who covers the team for NHl.com on his twitter feed today, Homer and Hexy had differences and things have been dicey since summer, with trades not made and I think Haks not fired (which Hexy said he would not do) . So I guess the debacle in Toronto Sat was the last straw.

I liked most of what Hexy did, but disagreed on his lack of trades and now there is a logjam in the prospect pool, too many good kids an no room on the parent club.

New GM will clean house, I'm guessing.

Haks not at practice today, which might mean nothing, but ....

How the f*** does Homer still have a job. Is he the Flyers Luc Robitaille?
Totally agree. Homer had set back the flyers development for years. Hextall worked on restocking the assets. I think his coaching hire was poor. Probably caused his ouster. But Holmgren’s decisions through the years have been far worse for that franchise.

Although not firing Haks I think was the primary reason, there were other issues, this article spells that out.
https://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/flyers/was-gm-ron-hextalls-authoritarianism-too-much

this, I had heard before, that he has a 'my way or the highway' attitude and that has hindered trades and potential FA signings that could have helped

"Much of the criticism surrounding Hextall’s authoritarian command was an unwillingness to listen to differing viewpoints and opinions.
"

Why the Flyers didn't go after Q. (I read an article over the weekend , that hinted at this, that 'management' had 2 coaches in mind but neither would consider the Flyers. And I'm guessing Q was one o fthem, because of the issues he had with Bowman, who like Hexy, didn't give the coach any input. Q wants that on his next gig.

"However, Hextall’s position to maintain organizational control also meant he didn’t want a head coach to challenge personnel decisions"

Tough day for Hexy, but I'm sure the Flyers will look back in a couple years and see he did a lot with drafting and re stocking the pipeline. He also got a lot for guys like Schenn and Cobourn.

Pretty terrible decision by the Flyers ownership. Nice reward for patient building and cleaning up the complete disaster left by Holmgren.
