So, who was good and who was bad? Key tank points right here.

Soda was bad

Brodie is as terrible. KK and Kaiser both had rough nights

Bedard had a good night.

Vlasic solid as always.

Hall/Bert line was good

Reichel/Maroon line was buzzing in the first.

Refs had a bad night and changed momentum in the game.

Dickinson and Foligno lazy and and bad

Kurashev just meh

TT was a baby shit soft.

Me watching Korchinski now completing stretch passes, clean entries and exits, and wheeling all over the ice

I know people love to talk about what a mistake it was to have KK up last year, but this is why. He had the best first pass among the dmen and it isn’t particularly close. His ability to retrieve the puck and move it up with a tape to tape pass makes such a huge difference on playing outside of our zone .

KK has skills none of the other d on the roster right now have. When you watch him making passes you're reminded that passing is part of the game. I want Rinzel to go pro and to see the whole enchilada with all the Hawks d prospects on the ice at the same time at the end of the year.

I don't mind the way team is playing right now. They will have some execution problems from time to time due to lack of talent. Actually rushing the puck, using the middle of the ice, not just blindly firing the puck out of fear- are all good improvement under A.S. already.
They're actually playing hockey. Under Richardson, my beer league teams had more effective systems. He doesn't understand modern hockey.

Didn't see game

How did Bedard, Reichel, Allan and Korchinski look?
First period was probably Bedard's best all season. Beauty goal, 4 shots on net, making plays out of thin air and good transitioning. He was quieter the rest of the game, but still got 2 more assists for a total of 3 points.

Reichel was his normal self on that line. No points, but fast and they generated a good amount of o-zone time. Allan was quiet, which you'll take from him.

KK looked great to me. Best defender outside of Vlasic IMO. Fast, great first pass, jumped up in the play a lot and had a solid backhander near the blue paint that rang off the pipe. Others thought he had a bad night and the advanced stats seemed to suggest that he had a bad night. So who knows?

Painful as they adjust but whatever.

Now that we actually seeing them skate, I'm much more optimistic about KK. I don't care about the defense too much, he's going to get OZ starts and defend by keeping the puck.

I don't think the future is going to look as shiny for Dickinson and Foligno with more of a 200' game being played but it doesn't matter.

I don't like tracking faceoffs as a meaningful stat, but they are definitely starting way too many shifts wasting strides chasing the puck again last night. Probably going to take some time to retrain all the forwards just on draws.

Anybody that thinks keeping Richardson around that long didn't leave some lasting damage is crazy.

Your point with first pass is really key to me. With as hard a time as the Hawks currently have with puck retrieval - after they're finally successful how often this year does a terrible pass immediately give the puck right back? Anyone remember how it opened the game up back in the day when Seabrook could complete a really nice stretch pass? Beyond just the potential scoring chance, all of a sudden the other team has to be playing on their back foot instead of aggressively forechecking so now everyone has a little more time to make a play instead of just chucking it off the glass. Having guys who can skate, are confident in their ability to make plays, and can then complete a pass are exactly what this team needs, and that's where Vlassic, KK, Lesh, & Rinzel all hopefully leading the way.

Missed the game....

Did the Hawks actually battle hard to make it a game from being down 5-1 or did the Islanders just roll over and give up some pity goals?

Islanders stopped caring after their 5-1 lead.

Roy ripped them after the game because of it.
