As I said, I don't think we'll miss the playoffs but it's a possibility now.

What I said was that this team has been playing bad hockey for a long time now. And I don't think we can just sit back and do nothing about this. I think we need to do something to spark the team. Something has to happen here. All that's happening is the team sliding further down the standings and us leaving Price out to dry.

At some point a GM has to step in and do something and I think we've reached that point.

Miss the playoffs? I don't think so, but it could happen if we keep playing like this.

Do you really want Bergie to do something? He scares me.

This team. This team. This ****ING team.

How many times does it have to be said they are much too small?? Why are they making Eller a winger all of a sudden? Why is Emelin giving a huge contract off a major injury?

Incredibly frustrating. To the Leafs of all teams on a Saturday night.

We are lucky we have Price. Otherwise these games wouldn't be close.

That's the sad thing. Price's perfomance this year has tricked Habs brass and some fans into thinking that we are a legit contender when we're just a mediocre team with a super human goalie.

With an average goalie, this team is out of the playoffs. Meanwhile our GM keeps "tinkering" a team that is in desperate need of a huge turnover.

We probably will be a wildcard team.

That's the problem.

It's not as if we'd go very far in the playoffs, assuming we'd make it.

It's not the best case scenario, however, it's a more realistic gauge of where the team is at.

Props to the Leaf fans who have chimed in here and who have shown a lot of class. :handclap:

So when we miss the playoffs, do we have a chance at the 1st overall pick?
Or is it still just the bottom 5 teams?

Watch Therrien getting the boot soon, à la Penguins circa 2009, and we'll bring back the cup this spring.

You guys just wait. :sarcasm:

I'd take a shot at the 1st overall pick via the draft lottery over losing in the first round again and picking 25th overall.

We have to build around PK Subban and Price (and keep Plekanec for 4-5 more seasons or more...). Imo as the years go by Pleks will not complain if he were demoted/promoted to 2nd line and then 3rd line defensive specialist duties, but imo...he will always be a solid/underrated TWO-WAY center.

We have enough firepower to score 2-3 goals per game...but we have to be that team that only lets in 1.5 - 2 goals per game...very possible with the right moves, system. Boring?? But, it may be our best chance to win consistently and go very far (since our best players are our goalie, our #1 dman, and our most consistent forward is two-way, so...let's concentrate on really improving our top 4 D-core...not easy but this should be the goal, imo).

Gorges and Emelin:
they are playing like #5-6 dmen right now...they have to improve a lot since they're both being paid like #3-4dmen.

We need at least one or two #3-4 dmen...
Wish we had kept James ''The Wiz'' Wisniewski!!
Or, wish we had a VERY SOLID and fast #3 or #4 defensive dman (would go well with Markov...since he's so slow...a fast partner would balance the pairing, imo).

Markov-PK Subban
Gorges/Emelin-Wisniewski or solid fast defensive dman
Emelin/Gorges - Diaz

This team hasn't look like it would make the playoffs since November.

Even if they made the playoffs, they'd get bounced early so what's the point of squeaking into the playoffs?

Until the lack of size is addressed, this team will do nothing. Forced to play the perimeter in the O-zone and to be passive defensively. And it's not that size is the sole determining factor, but we've got 4 players in the top 9 who are 5'9" or smaller, 6 who are less than 6' and of the remaining 3, one plays to his size well every night, one plays to his size well occasionally and the other plays a game that makes his size less of a factor.

I honestly don't care if they make the playoffs or not, at this point.

The Hab highway has way too many potholes to fix!!!
Every week there is two, three more potholes!!

Had to repair Desharnais when he had 1 pt in 19games.
Have to repair Bourque...and hope he plays well in playoffs!
Have to repair Briere...can he ever be a playoff hero again?

Now we have to worry about Gorges and Emelin...playing like VERY VERY overpaid #5-6 dmen.

Bouillon and Murray...no worries...the don't have 4-5 year contracts like Gorges and Emelin. Gorges and Emelin better pick it up.

Winnipeg has its own overpaid dman in...Bogosian.
This doesn't make me feel better, but...not many teams are perfect.

Bogosian for Emelin?!!:sarcasm:

Way too many dmen out there making $3-4-5mil/year!!

The scary part of this team is the quality and quantity of scoring chances given to the other teams. The defense as a unit has been horrible. To many one on one battle lost as of late.

Nice analogy. Those 2 need to wake up that's for sure. IMO, it's confidence they need, more so for Emelin. Gorges needs to sit if he's hurt.

The team isn't even that bad, it just needs better coaching who can get his guys going and actually be creative

Looks like the message has got old. MT is the type of coach who has a short life line in the NHL. He did his job, now bring in the new guy.

everybody calm down. We may want the Habs to win every game but the truth is the truth. Habs wins most games against teams like the Habs. Teams that have some good players but still need some better assets. Habs play 50/50 against teams that have better size and still have good assets. thus Habs get good point production but NOT top tear yet. Habs will get to the playoffs. How far they get? depends on who they play and if again some teams send goons to injury Habs hottest players. ( Chara on Patches, Gryba on Eller and such.) A planned accident is NOT an accident. I expect something again this year, I don't know who or when but expect it I do. Not because it only happens to the Habs but because they way to win against the Habs is to play BIG and RUFF and someone always takes it that one step too far. Until the Habs get bigger the truth is the truth. MB is on the right track but he still needs time to fix this. 1-2 years I expect before the Habs win the boards back and well also a few knock down drag out matches. Until then the Habs will have to ask the hockey gods to help make the path in the playoffs an easier path.

Wich coach would or could come in here and do a better job?

I mean ANY coach has to work with what he's given and right now there's a lot of dead wood in the Habs lineup...:shakehead

Well we are limited in candidates. MT is a great starter coach. I will agree about the roster, he needs help.

This team is starting to look like it might not make the playoffs.

Leafs now only four points back and the team's play is in freefall mode. Price's save percentage (despite him playing very well) is sinking like a stone and we can't score...

We need something. A coaching change, a trade... something to spark this team. 'Cause right now we suck.

I think they will make playoffs but slim chance they get past first round. Any of Boston, Philly, Tampa, Leafs be tough for us to beat. Given the size difference meaning more in playoffs.

This summer need a new coach(Guy Boucher), let a couple guys like Gionta walk and sign a big name free agent.

This is looking an awful lot like the slump to end last season. Only difference is people are finally smart enough to not blame Price for it and realize that it is porous defense that is the cause of the goals against.

Price plays two amazing games and yet gives up 8 goals in 2 games.
