Hasek and Elias leave Turin

:banghead: Elias was my first pick in an Olympic pool. I can kiss any chance of winning that goodbye.

Hasek shouldn't have been named to the team in the 1st place. He's way too old, and overrated.

Ugh, major , major blow for the Czechs. :shakehead

Havlat, Elias, Prucha... Three guys that can actually put the puck in the net on a consistent basis.
Hopefully Kotalik can help them there, so they don't have to rely that much on the two-way guys and pass-first guys like Cajanek, Bulis, Erat, Hemsky, etc.... to get some goals.

Bad luck for the chechs, no good sportsfan should wish for injuries on other teams players. Especially not to a legend like Hasek. Hopefully someone else steps up for you.

Oh, I didn't know that. Thanks for the good information. :sarcasm:

I wouldn't count them out just yet. It hurts to lose somebody with the international experience of Hasek, but talentwise it's a lateral move with Vokoun taking his place (despite a shaky performance against the Swiss).

And wasn't Elias originally not on the team due to injury? I may be mistaken on that...

No, he wasn't originally on the team because they weren't sure how he'd be able to come back from the hepatitis. He was added to the team when Prucha was injured.

That is a huge blow for the Czechs, luckily they still have Vokoun but they don't have the goaltending depth they did for the back to back games. And Elias has been playing great, losing him is also a big blow.

He's a fellow sens fan who is glad Hasek is coming back instead of risking further injury in the Olympics. We need him if we're to have a chance at winning the cup.

Excuse me? :shakehead

He is not 'too old' as demonstrated by his play for the sens this season, nor is arguably one of the best goalies ever overated.

No doubt Elias is the most rounded Czech player, but they were one of the favorites going in without him named to the team, became an even better team with him added, and now back to their original status: great but could be better.

I think the biggest question is how the rest of the team responds to this. The impact of losing two great players on this team's confidence could actually be greater than the sum of the parts.

You just hate seeing really good players unable to perform. It takes away honour from the opposing team if they beat them as well.

As for only having one really good goalie to rely on, welcome to Sweden's corner. ;) At least you don't miss your defensmen as well. And it could have been Jagr. Then I would really have said "Welcome to Sweden's corner."

He has one **** of a way of showing his appreciation to his goalie.

I think it's the result most sens fans wanted (myself included). Many of us were hoping he would back out of the Olympics all together and rest considering the amount of games he'd been playing leading up to the Olympic break. Batman may have a little overenthusiastic with the news but it's a sentiment shared by many. It's because of appreciation for him and his importance to our team that he made the comment.

I don't think losing Hasek is a major problem for the Czechs. It still wasn't clear who was going to start in the medal round for the Czech's, this simply makes the decision for them. Elias is a major loss though.
