Asia is like 2 billion people. If NHL and NHLPA do not want to showcase their sport in that market come 2018, I do not what will get them to.

What's the difference between all star weekend?

It's not a scrimmage?

These games are no different than Olympic hockey minus the fodder nations, minus the horrible international officiating, and minus the boring big ice. And, again, minus some of the pointless nationalism.

Why are these games not a scrimmage but the all star game is?

My opinion is even worse now. The two gimmick teams are as much fun to watch as an all-star game. It's fun, but in the end neither is a real team. They totally disrupted international hockey and the actual balance of powers.

Canada is the best and we already knew it, but this tournament is a complete joke. Even more than a joke actually, like a spit in the face of international hockey fans.

Nope. It's still an entirely pointless tournament with nothing of importance on the line, no urgency to win or not. I'm still catching a game or two cause I like my hockey, but I won't in any way be feeling sad or upset if Canada gets knocked out early. I might actually go and watch a game in person, which I said I wouldn't do, but that's just because tickets are available for less than a third of the price of an OHL game and who doesn't want to taunt some Russians for $6 :)

See and that's the thing right there. 1976, 1981, 1984, 1987, 1991, 1996, 1998, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2014. They were ALL best on best. No gimmicks. Just one nation against the other and seeing who was best. That's it. No one even asked if it was best on best, it just was. This is the problem with this one, we have to actually acknowledge the fact that it does not hold the same water as the other tournaments in the past. That ticks me off because if Canada dominates the whole way through it will irritate me that with such a great team we had the NHL and the NHLPA had to de-legitimize this tournament for their own pockets.

So that's what us "old timers" get mad about. Anyone over 30 can remember when this was REAL hockey.

I'm 46 and enjoying the hell out of this, and it's REAL hockey.

There's a reason it's tough to have the best players in the world in a tournament with 6 teams. There are quite a few world class players that don't fit into the Canada Cup format.

This tournament incorporates the best players. That alone offers legitimacy.

So much LOL at "I'm actually cheering for the Russians" than just not paying it any attention.

It is absolutely beyond stupid how so much wasted emotion has been displayed hating the **** out of this and wishing for its failure than just ignoring it. Hard to get my head around how idiotic that is.

All star game this year had a tournament format. Why don't guys want to win the all star game?

How do you know they don't?

Anyway, it goes beyond saying that this is a bit different that the All-Star weekend based on format alone.

I'm loving this Team NA vs Russia game

A lot more feisty than the RUS SWE game

How does it go beyond?

Are you being purposely obtuse just to troll?

First of all, there are eight teams, and it lasts more than a weekend.

There's almost 200 players competing in this. How many players complex in the all-star game?

The finals alone are a best of three format.

Pretty ****ing different.

I'm watching some of it but only because 1. Jays are ******** the bed and 2. I'm a hockey fan BUT no.... I'll take the olympics 365 days a year over this goofy thing. When Canada plays in a gold medal game this country comes to a standstill. I don't see that happening if we play in the finals of World Cup. Especially if canada meets NA in final. As a fan how does my 9 year old son cheer for his country to beat his favourite player (CM) ?? Poor kid won't know what to do

So if the all star game went from four to eight you would like that better? The all star game is even more elite players because there's less there. Would you prefer an all star week long tournament?

A lot of salt in here from folks who seem more concerned about convincing others this tournament isn't good instead of actually watching the games.

very few are arguing that it is better then the Olympics and it is on the same level. Doesn't mean you can't enjoy this tourney still. I do agree, a CAN vs NA would actually suck

I'm seeing players caring and giving an effort. Even Team Europe seemed excited to win their game today. It's not the Olympics, it's got a couple weird teams, but I think the people that have been bashing the tournament for months have to work harder than before to keep doing that.

how any hockey fan can not enjoy this is beyond me.

this is fantastic.

How can you be a fan of hockey and not enjoy this tournament? It's been awesome and its only going to get better.

Man some of you guys are MISERABLE...complain about EVERYTHING.

Next thing you know his favorite player might be traded one day from his favorite team. Innocence lost for sure.

Ok. Will you support me financially for the trip?

The NHL doesn't decide which tournament holds the most prestige. But sure, it's not like the next olympic hockey tournament will hold as much skill as it should. But the medals will hold more prestige than winning the Mickey Mouse pre-season cash grab All-Star tournament. And the NHL players will hate the league they play for, that they refused them to play.

Yeah no the nhl player's can pay their own way if they want but it won't have any prestige with all the best players missing. Who cares who wins in a tourney of not good enoughs
