It's a meaningless exhibition tournament to me so I don't think so. You won't change my position and I won't change yours so leave it at that.

Just like those meaningless Stanley Cup playoffs or the meaningless Super Bowl. If you're looking for a meaning you shouldn't watch sport.

What???? I watch Stanley Cup playoff games every single year and wake up for them - if Ducks are out, I still watch the Finals. Same for Super Bowl. So thanks for your disrespecting assumptions.

I'm definitely more into the tournament than I thought I would be (probably doesn't hurt that I bet 10 bucks on Europe when their odds were 42-1)

the kids are fun to watch the rest is pretty bla but what can ya expect from a pre-preseason tourney.

The hockey is great, the tournament is absolute garbage. No, I haven't changed my mind.

IF this wasn't created to refuse the NHL players to participate in the olympics, I would've been fine with it and enjoyed it alot more. Now this tournament is the equivalent of a sweet & sour sauce. **** the NHL.

It's as big a joke as I thought it would be. More so actually, and it's a joy seeing the results implode on the NHL.

One gimmick almost through to the SF, another on the way, and Team USA on life support.

Absolutely brilliant!

Yup, that is hilarious. I kind of want team NA to win it only to troll the NHL. Good luck playing the anthem and hoist that absolutely disgusting logo to the rafters. Also, the groups are a joke. Canada and the three weakest teams in one group, it seems.

Now watch how NHL goes through with their idea to let players be in heritage teams for 2020.

The hockey can be good while the tournament is a joke and the stakes are zero. Look at the last All-Star game.

Like I said in the other thread, if the NHL would just commit to the Olympics and say, "this is just something we're doing for the fans, a spectacle of hockey talent for everyone to enjoy", then people would warm up to it quickly.

I love it. And I'm European.

The two gimmick teams just provide more exciting hockey. Sochi was dull in comparison.

Besides, what else would I be watching in September?

I came in looking forward to it because quite frankly I just wanted to watch hockey

I was not disappointed. The games have been exciting (moreso than Sochi), especially team NA

9/10 would watch and support again

Europeens viewing this how we North Americans view the World Hockey Championships it seems lol

Pretty much. Nothing more to see here folks. You're never going to satisfy everyone, so don't even bother trying.

Winning the World Cup Championship is ON PAR with winning Olympic Gold. Regardless of the format that some people can't bring themselves to get past.

The players are playing like its that important, too. :)

I still don't think it has any legitimacy as an international tournament (mostly due to the non-country teams), but I was always prepared to enjoy it for what it is. I'm on the TNA bandwagon. It's just a fun exhibition tournament with some very good hockey, and nothing wrong with just enjoying it at face value.

This is way more entertaining hockey than the Olympics IMO.

I would slot this tournament under other World Cups, and the Olympics in terms of prestige, but just above the World Championships.

Nope, winning this tournament is not on par with winning olympic gold. Not even close. Even when a team wins olympic gold in hockey without a single NHL player the next time, it will hold more prestige than the winner of this tournament, whether you like it or not.

Now tell that to the players.

I was looking forward to it and it's been enjoyable. Look forward to 2020, especially after it was reported that they're very likely headed back to strictly countries. Wouldn't mind them bumping it up 10 teams as well. Fun event.

I watched the early games from over here in Europe just because it's hockey. I enjoyed it just because it's hockey. Being Slovak, I felt no emotion when Europe scored or won. I did feel a small subtle emotion when Gaborik and Chara scored, but that's about it. I would never wake up for a late game (1-2am in Europe) with these gimmick teams, unlike if Slovakia would have played. I expect TV ratings to be awful. The TV ratings will be even more awful if Team Europe and NA make it far.

That's debatable.

Ok. Will you support me financially for the trip?
That's debatable.
The NHL doesn't decide which tournament holds the most prestige. But sure, it's not like the next olympic hockey tournament will hold as much skill as it should. But the medals will hold more prestige than winning the Mickey Mouse pre-season cash grab All-Star tournament. And the NHL players will hate the league they play for, that they refused them to play.

I find it weird that the level of play dictates how important the tournament is for someone. World cup of football is usually very poor in terms of game level but it doesn't take away from its prestige.

Hockey is one event amongst many in the Olympics. The prestige of them will die if the NHL'ers (best players in the world) pull out.

The World Cup is an event all unto itself.

As for European ratings. They don't drive NHL ratings, given the time zone. Canada and the U.S. do. That's just a fact.

If neither Canada, the U.S. or NA make it to the final series, it would bode very bad financially for the NHL.

If neither Canada or NA make it to the final, it would bode very bad for ACC revenue.

It's better then watching baseball and it should help some of the star players be warmed up by the time the season starts.
