I'm loving it!

Europe and NA23 were fantastic additions!
Almost wonder if Europe should be "World" and NA23 should be simply U23, and can be taking from any country (each country can have one priority U23 player on their roster, or something), just bc of ppl needlessly complaining

What I don't get is why no bronze medal game..?

I was unhappy when the two gimmick teams were included but I've enjoyed the hell out of this tournament and the gimmick teams are a large part of that. I just wanted to watch some entertaining hockey and there's been plenty of that.

How is any pro all-star team a gimmick? Wow this hockey surpassed your limited expectations, simply fascinating. NHL is a bigger gimmick than any team we've witnessed the last 2 weeks.

No change for me. I still cannot accept the fact u23 or Europa are teams in a tournament called "World Cup".

I m pretty sure the next tournaments will be always in Canada or USA to have good timetable for NA. I m pretty sure this WC will destroy the Olympic Game Ice Hockey. The good name should be Canada Cup and not World Cup.

Yes the level is awesome and players involve in this tournament but anyway, I cannot be really focus about this. I downloaded the last night (or us in Europa) game and was ready to see but finally looked just a bit cause i still feel bad thinking my country (Switzerland ) cannot be in a tournament like this. Even if Switzerland beat lately Czech Republic or Canada in JO.

Europeens viewing this how we North Americans view the World Hockey Championships it seems lol

No we dont...you dont care about the wch and we view the world cup as an insult and [MOD]...big difference.

My fear is that you have ruined international hockey for good, reducing it to a pathetic money making scheme where the only thing that matters is how many in NA is watching...

Biggest fear was that some of the players wouldn't care. I was wrong on that.

The hockey has been good, but the answer for me is no.

At this point, it just doesn't hold the same weight in my mind as the Winter Olympics. I mean, we weren't even witnessing the best squads that Canada/US could put forward and that basically eliminates the "best-on-best" aspect of it somewhat.

I view the WCH as arrogance by the IIHF...they only have this tournament in Europe (except once) and at a time when the best players can't even participate due to the NHL playoffs...plus being held every year minimize the "allure" of the Tournament

I mean, Canada has won the past 2 with essentially their "C" squads but it would mean a lot more if it were a tournament held every 4 years in September or August (before the KHL starts) like the World Cup with the best players available...and held in a new country each time

Interest was slow to start, team North America raised it, dropped again when they were eliminated, watched Canada-Russia out of pride, finals are a complete bore.

A guy on the radio summed it up perfectly this morning. When asked if the tournament was a failure, he said : I'm a fan of hockey, so I'm pleased to watch some good hockey, but when I ask people around me, they say they're following it but are not displeased if they missed the games.

It's exactly how I feel. I've watched some games and followed the tournament, but the thrill is not there and I don't really care if I have other things to do than watch the game. It's not like the olympics where the whole Canada stopped to watch the game.

Canada can apply for organizing it so as other country do and as Canada does in case of WJC. Timing will be same though.

It's extremely small change, very, very small change, compared to the Olympics. And, while fun on one level, Canadian domination doesn't help.

I never held it on the esteem of the Olympics. The original World Cup in 96 was great and the Canada Cups before that, but that was because there was no Olympic participation so it was the only time to see the true best on best.

This hasn't come close to the Olympics in that regard. As for the World Championships I think everyone would be far more on board with that if it wasn't at a time during the NHL playoffs that the majority of the best players for each country are in the playoffs (minus Ovechkin). It's just not a true best on best tournament. And neither will this one be if they don't include more countries, having gimmick teams in over nations that are trying their best to get ahead like Switzerland it's a bit of a slap in the face to them I would think. Maybe they won't win the whole thing but they still get the opportunity to show what they can do against all the best teams and climb the ladder.

Most non hockey fan Canadians don't even know this is going on.

Who cares? Is that what makes Olympic hockey great - that people who don't care about hockey to begin with tune in to watch because OMG, it's the Olympics?

Not sure why you quoted me with this reply, my point still stands.

You do understand that IOC is not sitting on the money? It goes back to National Olympic committees and the international federations for each sport.

The operating expense for the IOC is 125mil each year. That's less than 10% of the revenue and worth about 1.7 NHL team's payroll.

US olympic committee manhandled 10% of the annual IOC revenue to itself. Probably the NHL insurance row has something to do with that...

Here are some basics:

[MOD]

I warmed up to team NA after watching Team NA vs Sweden, but it didnt appear to me as the swedish pLayers were very passionate
Turned off Sweden vs Europe after the 1st period, too boring

Actually, yes, that's a pretty big part of it. And I think that's what the NHL tried capturing with this tournament because "OMG, it's the World Cup".

Besides the primary reason of generating HRR, they probably wanted to present the game on a global scale to generate new fans by tuning in to a sport they either never cared for before or watched. If that wasn't the case, then just showcase the league's best stars in the All-Star Game and be done with it.
