Has Tucker made the team?

He looks good to me. I am not an advanced stat guy and I'm pretty sure he isn't getting tough matchups at home.

I have read many favorable comments about him on the game day threads, and the Chief mentioned him yesterday as one of the few guys who competed in the Vancouver game.

With Bortuzzo out of the lineup and Nikko traded, Tucker seems to be a most physical d man and willling to fight.

Yeah, I think he's basically at that point now. He's our only waiver exempt defenseman, and we still haven't sent him down while carry 8 D. He's played well with Rosen in a sheltered 3rd pair role, and I think at a minimum has the potential to replace what Bortozzo brought.

For now, yeah, I think so. Especially if they continue to carry 8 d-men on the team.

Whether he’ll be one of the top-7 guys in October though is much harder to say. I don’t even want to try to guess what our defense will look like when camp breaks in the fall.

No. We need to see what happens with our defense. We have 6 NHL veterans signed next year plus Rosen who has had a good enough season to earn a role if one is available. Ideally we move 1 or 2 D out and bring a new top 4 D in. We aren't carrying 8 next year. So how many we move out will determine whether he is a full timer or not. If we don't move anyone, we'll run Parayko, Faulk, Leddy, Krug, Scandella for sure. Bortuzzo, Rosen, Tucker, and Perunovich will fight for the 6th and 7th D spot.

If you think Tucker has been good, Rosen has been better. So I think he gets the nod if we don't move out multiple D. Plus Rosen is better suited for a 7th D, while Tucker is better served getting minutes in the AHL. He might beat out Bortuzzo, but we only have 3 RHD in that 9, and we are a team where that matters to an extent. Plus Botz is a leader and the team probably doesn't want to send him to Springfield if they can help it.

We'd have to move Scandella and Krug/Parayko for Tucker to get a guaranteed spot next year.. Otherwise I think he will be the first call-up. We do also have Perunovich who we need to showcase as well for a trade or to see if he is a viable 3rd pairing/PP specialist to replace Krug down the road.

He’s probably earned the chance to stay up for the rest of the Blues regular season. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s back in Springfield for their playoff run. Who knows about next year…

It really boils down to can he get it together. I see a lot of Garth Butcher in him...

I would say tucker is viewed as a positive pillar that will be a small but useful piece we keep for our rebuild/retool and long term should be a mainstay on our blueline, even if it's more of a bortuzzo type role and usage versus an Edmunson.

I would be thrilled if he could become even a lesser version of Butcher
Butcher was tough, hardnosed, sound defensively and drew tons of penalties because he was so good at getting under the other teams skin, but no offense though

The fact the Blues are carrying 8 and the recent rumors strongly suggest to me that a defender will be moved at the deadline. Tucker probably sticks for the rest of the season.

He will have to fight for a roster spot next year though.

Certainly a logical thought. Although it’s also easy enough to recall a guy if/when needed too.

We also still have Perunovich is Springfield as well. I’d think they’ll want him playing some NHL games down the stretch.
