He still might. He struggle early this season as a 2nd year pro. He has enough talent to figure it out and become a good AHL player, but it may not be immediate success.

Might have something to do with being 5'9" ~175 lbs in an exponentially heavier and more difficult league. It took a while for Desharnais to figure out how to play against the pros as well.

we'll see what happens but somethings things just don't go well for a bit, like when Caufield had 1 goal and people started making fun of the posters like myself that suggested he would score 40 goals one day. With his shot you wonder how could he of had just 1 goal for that long.

Granted Farrell doesn't have the shooting skills of Caufield, so he's just going to have to work his way through this. To me he looks faster and the skating better but last year when so many things were working for him, this year almost nothing seems to generate much offense outside of a couple games (where he scored but it was later called off) and he hit the post that game.

The good news is, he was a 4th round pick that was undersized, not a great skater or overly quick, that's a ton to overcome but that's why with development of non Crosby, McDavid's, it can take years with several ups and downs along the way. So we'll see what happens, either he figures things out or he gets moved for a fresh start somewhere. I still believe in the IQ and skill.

He was always so hard working in college. He still is but he will need to find another gear in that regards if he is going to make it. He needs to be a buzzsaw. Hopefully this is similar to what Jake Evans went through... but the problem is that there is so much depth now. He will get passed over quickly.

His skating is hurting him the most IMO, just 10% more explosiveness would make a big difference. I don't know if the skill development staff can make it happen though, some players just can't get faster.

I think sometimes people forget that there is so much progression that is still required after being drafted.

His accolades in college are just that, a reflection of him excelling on a collegiate level. But that in itself does not make anyone a slam dunk for the nhl. You need to keep developing, and keep improving by significant margin in most cases in order to make it.

Sometimes, guys peak in college. But the ones that keep getting better will have a chance to make an nhl career. That is the art of drafting. You are trying to project where a player will be 5 years from now as opposed to what a player is today

Not crazy at all. Kidney is bigger, faster and stronger than Farrell. He's also probably Montreal's most underrated forward prospect. As I stated in my game review, if Kidney's progress/development continues at its current pace, he's playing in the NHL.

Going from 28 pts in 47 to 2 in 21 in a year. I guess the past injuries may still have a lingering effects. I would still be patient with him and see if he can get back on track.

That should improve if he stays with Beck and Davidson.

Kidney has been the biggest surprise this year to this writer. He has shown surprising speed and strength on the puck. I think he complements Beck well as he sees the game better than Farrell.

Bottom line, Kidney will probably be replaced by Mesar once the latter returns. Between Mesar and Beck we should see a lot of production as both see and play the game at a high level. That pairing should be very entertaining to watch.

Kidney is a long shot to play in the NHL.

I am not sure how a player who has never been a great skater, who is physically weak and has 1 goal in in 21 games in the AHL this season is somehow on pace to be an NHLer lol.

Maybe he does make it one day but that is not the course that he currently has set for himself at all.

As an undersized forward, Farrell will have to get stronger and faster to be effective at the next level. He has NHL level hand skills, shooting ability, offensive vision and creativity. If he can gain the needed strength, he can join the host of other smallish, offensive orientated forwards who have, and continue to carve out successful careers in the NHL.

he's the same prospect he always was, someone that has a lot of skill and IQ but lacks size, skating, strength, speed. This year to me he clearly looks quicker out there but still has major issues with strength as he is easy to push off pucks but just needs to keep working.

Why do some rookies have a Sophomore slump? Why do some players start the season slow or have a terrible 2nd half? There are likely tons of reasons as to why these things happen, which is why I say most posters talk out their ass when the pretend they know how any non high end prospect is going to develop over 5 years as there are so many variables and factors that fans just can't know.

What happened to cause Farrell to open the season with just 2 pts in 22 games and since has 10 in 16 games? Only he can really say but the main thing is development is often a long process of several years that often have highs and lows and fans should mostly just sit back and relax and watch it unfold instead of running to post to call so and so a bust or get out the pom poms the second said prospect starts stringing together some strong games.
