He’s only played 5 games, and generally has looked comfortable and pretty solid playing limited third pair minutes. I’d be happy with him as the #7 or #8 this season (when the roster is healthy), and as he gains NA experience I could see him turning into a good top-6 defender.
It is just going to take a while to see what type of D he'll be at the NHL level. Way early. He's not making too many mistakes and has not seemed overwhelmed by NHL speed.
I saw him in Montreal and his pivoting ability moving from backward to forward skating looked very slow and worried me. Hopefully that’s something they work on because his size and range is such an asset.
