Might have been the only fight Mike ever won. I don't remember him winning any on the ice. He was a pretty average NHL defensemen--has a losing record as a coach--utterly destroyed the Islanders as a general manager (which from my perspective was a good thing) and is an awful NHL commentator---the worst really and hopefully after last year's playoffs he won't be back.

He does have that to hang his hat on though.

Claiming Milbury as one of your own is an odd move.

I just don't understand the need to post this here. Is it a provocation of some kind? or just meant as a today in NHL history. I'm sure that if I linked the video of Sean Avery clipping Tim Thomas in the back of his head on the Bruins board on that day's anniversary that that would be well received.

The other thing is Milbury just has never come across to me as a very nice individual and that has often come up in his role as NBC commentator and led to his being relieved of duties after the NHL returned to play. You just don't know what's going to come out of his mouth. It's like he's always on the edge of being the next Don Cherry.

I've always likened NBC using Milbury as an expert in the same way that Fox hired Matt Miller after he was fired by the Detroit Lions. Both men did just an awful job in their previous jobs. And now people are supposed to listen to these guys as hockey insiders whose experience and knowledge is unmatched. But there is a body of work that severely contradicts that. He also has no desire to contain his own private bias about certain teams. Arrogance and ignorance makes for a distasteful combination.

The Avery thing was about 10 years ago, I don't think it's the same thing as something happening 40 years ago.

It's amazing when you think about it.

The man is a genuine moron who doesn't understand any more about hockey than the average hockey fan does about microbiology.

But he's a LOUD moron, so he was able to leech off the sport for his entire life.

I liken it to calling CNN a news organization! The National Enquirer is more relevant.
