I’m surprised but I’m not. As others have said, that was the most noncommittal I’ve seen Dubas when asked about Sullivan last week. Got the sense that he would’ve been okay with moving on.

I’d imagine Sullivan pops up somewhere else shortly. This seems like a “We’re not gonna fire you but we really wouldn’t mind you going somewhere else.”

It's also not super surprising after what Dubas said at his exit press conference. He was extremely non-committal to Sullivan and it seemed pretty evident that he would like a change if the opportunity arose. He wants to bring in his own guy that will actually play youth like a rebuild is supposed to be doing.

The thing that kinda stinks here is that I almost guarantee Sullivan is going to the Rangers, which I think locks in them giving up their 2026 1st to the Penguins and also likely makes them bounce back to a playoff team. Throw shit at Sullivan all you want, but he'll get a short term bounce out of the Rangers for sure.

This team's shown, for years, they have no issue with not only signing/trading for complete trash, but playing them. There's been like a dozen guys over the past couple of years that you could remove and replace, and either end up in a better spot regardless of who you replaced them with, or simply wouldn't miss their presence whatsoever.

No idea why they refuse to strip away pieces with any value, even marginal value, and just run barebones to try and get some legitimate stud prospects while they can still learn from the likes of Sid and Geno.

Don't think it really matters, he's 100% getting hired by the Rangers to be their HC.

They'd only have to pay him if he sat on the sidelines for 2 years, but he's going to get hired in about 2 days at most.

Yeah it’s a shame they didn’t do this when they were actually contending.

he’s 4 years stale. Very stale.
