Just thought even though half of my brain knows this is a gimmicky tournament that is going to come back and bite the NHL in the butt it might still be fun to compare the Team Canada championship teams at the highest level and the amount of HHOFers each team has, or is likely to have. 1972 isn't included here, we invited 35 guys as opposed to 23. I'll stick to 1976 onwards.

1976 - 18...........unlikely to be any more
1984 - 13.........(possible) Middleton, Wilson
1987 - 12...........unlikely to be any more
1991 - 11..............(possible) Fleury, Larmer (long shot)
2002 - 13...........(possible) Fleury, Joseph, Kariya, Peca (long shot)
2004 - 7.............(possible) Luongo, Richards, Marleau (latter two long shots)
2010 - 10.........(possible) Luongo, Getzlaf, Perry, Bergeron, Seabrook, Boyle, Marleau, M-A Fleury
2014 - 6.................(potential/possible) Price, Luongo, Subban, Marleau, Benn, Getzlaf, Perry, Pietrangelo, Tavares, Bergeron

So no team can beat 1976. There are 18 in the HHOF. Even in a best case scenario the 2010 and 2014 teams fall short of 18 unless there are darkhorses that really step up (eg. Carter). But how does 2016 compare? There aren't a lot of sure shots, but plenty of potential. Sure shots in bold.

2016 - Crosby, Weber, Doughty, Toews, Thornton, Stamkos.........Price, Crawford, Holtby, Pietrangelo, Burns, Tavares, Bergeron, Giroux, Getzlaf, Perry, Couture

So basically at the best case scenario it still won't match 1976 with 18. Pretty hard to do that. Anyway, have fun with it.

Guessing ten, with some optimistic projection.

Locks - Crosby and Thornton (Could retire today and enter)

Very good bets - Toews, Doughty, Weber (Media loves them and they have done enough that a few seasons of stat padding are enough)

Decent bets - Getzlaf, Tavares, Price, Stamkos, Bergeron

If Getzlaf gets in, the discussion around Perry will be interesting. I think Perry's Hart helps Getzlaf, since most consider Getzlaf the better player. Bergeron would be a pretty unique HHOF player, but I think he's good enough offensively that it puts him in over someone like Carbonneau who was also the best defensive forward of his generation.

Perry is already a very likely to make the HOF, but if Canada wins, he's pretty much a lock.

He'd be the first one since Scott Niedermayer to win the World Cup, Stanley Cup, Memorial Cup and Gold at the Olympic's, World Championship's and World Juniors.

Not to mention he's a Rocket Richard and Hart trophy winner.

Price should be a lock (cup or no cup) given the path of his career in recent years. He's been getting underrated quite a bit since his injury but he's still the best player in the world right now imo. Legend in the making

Price will probably get in. Based on projections I think he will for sure. He's not at that "if he retires today he's in" scenario like Crosby, Thornton and probably even Weber and Doughty are, but so long as his injury doesn't shorten his career he is as good as a lock.

Bolded are the guys I think get in the Hall

Crosby, Weber, Doughty, Toews, Thornton, Stamkos, Price, Crawford, Holtby, Pietrangelo, Burns, Tavares, Bergeron, Giroux, Getzlaf, Perry, Couture

Tavares, Bergeron and the Anaheim players possibly get in as well.

Defensemen are tricky. When J-C Tremblay and Doug Wilson are on the outside then the rules are strict for defensemen, and that's good. For example Pietrangelo has a much better chance than Burns. He's younger, has more time left and Burns has really just started to get noticed in the last couple of years now. He'll need more years like last year.

Edit: nvm. I see what you've done now. My bad.

(Since when does the "edit" option not show up on mobile? Didn't wanna double post)

Oh yeah, Iggy is automatically added each team he is on. No way he is left out.
