Note: I haven't had the chance to see the current USA U18 team, aside from in short clips and highlights. I've seen a few of them (Hughes, Knight, York, Caufield, Turcotte) with last year's U18's, but don't yet have a read on Boldy, Vlasic, Warren, Thrun, Beecher, Zegras, etc so those guys could move around a lot.

Don't like Saarela. Small, real awkward skater and it seems like he's often behind the play.

I don't mind Nikkanen, but again- I don't see any chance of him being so much as a high-end third liner. He's got good instincts and defensive smarts, but again- small and a lack of skating are never a good combo. It's just a matter of there being 70 or so players I prefer.

Has is great. A combination of speed, skill and size. A real good puck protector. One thing I would like to see is more agression offensively.

I see some Cammalleri in Mastrosimone. How he gets good, high shots off from awkward positions, how he skates, etc.. He's got a plethora of talent and a good motor to go with it.


EDIT: Nikkanen's not small, but he plays small. His physical traits do him no good. Not a small, elusive skater, nor a big destroyer of worlds.

I don't like him, but I've only seen him play a game here or there where he didn't get much ice time. I like small players lots, so long as they have the strength to hold up against tougher competition. Strondala to me seems REALLY weak and easily knocked off the puck, and the only way I could imagine him in the NHL is as a PP specialist. Now yes, he can gain strength, I just think he's so far behind. I felt this way about Kristian Tanus last year who I prefer to Strondala for sure.

I'm also high on Mastrosimone. He reminds me of Brad Marchand a little in that he's the type of player thats skilled, but so annoying to play against. Gets under opposing teams skin easily but in general is all over the place.

People were too in awe of Bjornfot and Soderstrom's skating in the Hlinka to notice much of Soderstrom before he wound up injured.

Poulin has some good qualities, specifically his hands in tight are what interest me, but he has some awfully choppy skating which knock him down the list a ways for me. I'm just not sure he can keep up. He's listed within my top 90.

Vlasic, I haven't seen aside from the odd clip here or there, which usually isn't even focused on him, but my understanding is he's essentially just another Adam Samuelsson- no thank you.

I've seen enough of Pelletier to know I want nothing to do with him. I honestly don't know if I've ever seen him do something useful in a hockey game, aside from forecheck. He spends a lot of time chasing the puck and not a lot of time actually getting it. Zero instincts without the puck. Even with the puck, he only has an impact on the powerplay- isn't a fast enough skater or quick enough thinker for his size to effective otherwise.

I rank goalies separate from skaters, but Knight is 100% my #1.

I've only put so much thought into goalies, but there are certainly some good ones. Personally, I'm a big fan of Taylor Gauthier.
