Say what you want about Eklund, but he sure comes up with some interesting out of left field ideas.
So....
Let's discuss this.

Shane Doan
Right Wing -- shoots R
Born Oct 10 1976 -- Halkirk, ALTA
[40 yrs. ago]
Height 6.01 -- Weight 223 [185 cm/101 kg]
2016 Cap Hit: $5 000 000
Has a NMC
2015/16: GP:72, G:28, A:19, Pts:47
2016/17: GP:22, G:2, A:4, Pts:6

Would Doan be willing to finally leave the Coyotes for a chance at a Cup?
If so, would Montreal be a desirable destination to him?
What other teams would he be willing to waive for?
At this point, considering his age and his deteriorating stats, is he worth a teams interest?
What would be the cost to acquire him?

Beginning of the month and right on cue Eklund has a habs rumor, you can always count on him to have some leafs or habs scoop at the end and the beginning of months.

Cost would be negligible. 2nd round pick, maybe. He has slowed a bit but he's still good on the PP, and is of course great in the room and the playoffs. This is his last year, so its now or never regarding a move. He would go to Montreal because he is related to Carey Price, and they're a strong team this year.

I imagine he'd waive for a number of other teams that can fit his cap hit with 50% retained. But I don't see it happening this early in the season.

Obligatory:

"He's a Francophobe and would be crucified by the Quebecois media his whole time there."

But in all seriousness I doubt it.

My question would be about whether or not there is a coaching position in his future. From what I hear ARZ fans are less than happy with their coach and the GM of ARZ is more than happy to make bold moves.

In your head
Can't see them being interested in Doan

However, interesting thought here:

How will Google's crackdown on fake news impact Hockeybuzz?

It would be a disgrace to trade Doan. But that's just my opinion. Given the fact that Doan is over a decade older than the GM, these things may or may not hold a lot of value for the younger one.

Doan is going nowhere. He has his life in Arizona and his kids have grown up there. He will retire in Arizona and get a job within the organization as soon as he retires as a player. MANY times he has been given the opportunity to potentially go to a contender but he respectfully declines it. He loves mentoring the young kids in Arizona and does a damn good job.

I have heard all of these things numerous times before and agree that there's no way he'd leave Arizona. If he ever did I don't think it would be Montreal.

Let's be honest here. Arizona is not going to be in the playoffs this season.
There is no reason he can't return there after the playoffs are over.
He is at the end of his contract, and likely career, and a single playoff series rental elsewhere to try for a Cup should not affect his life in Arizona.
I can see him seriously thinking this through. Not necessarily Montreal, but somewhere.
This could very well be his last chance to do it.
No long term commitment. Just 2016/17 season, no more.

Arturri Lekhonen - Alex Galchenyuk - Alex Radulov
Max Pacioretty - XXX - Brendan Gallagher
Andrew Shaw - Phillip Danault - Shane Doan
Paul Byron - Torrey Mitchell - Brian Flynn

Getting Plekanec and DD out and adding a #2 centre and Doan would be a very solid forward core.

Andrighetto + 3rd pick for Doan at 50% is all I would give Arizona though.

I doubt Montreal has much interest in an expensive 4th line RW, but I'd be curious about the price of Hanzal + Doan, if Doan was willing to move.

Plekanec + DD + McCarron/Scherbak?

Try and place yourself in Doan's shoes - Why would he want the hassle? From what I have read life for him is good in Arizona.

If he ever did want to become a rental I think a place like Winnipeg would be a great destination. That might be the only place he would be willing to go for a brief time.

I assume the Habs are relocating to Tucson or something. That's the only possible way Doan would end up on the Canadians.

Not much, I'm guessing. Google has bigger fish to fry and Hockeybuzz is a sports rumor site and pretty harmless, all things considered.

He's about to retire and you don't think he would even consider one last shot at the cup? I doubt its much of a hassle to be traded at TDL and spend 2-4 months away from home in possibly his last season. Its not like he would buy a house in Montreal or anything, he may even be about to crash at his cousin Carey's place (I have no clue if they are actually close).

I think a deal around

Doan + Hanzal

for

Plekanec + DD (cap) + 1st/prospect not named Sergachev

could work. I know Yotes fans are irate when we mention DD as a cap dump (despite the fact he is UFA and they will need warm bodies to end the year) so if they retain 50% on Doan you could take him out. Plekanec has one year left at 6M cap (5M salary) and, while his production is down, he takes crazy defensive assignments and can either be used to shelter their young players or left exposed to Vegas so they don't lose one of said young players (I don;t actually have a clue who ARI is expected to expose and if that would be useful, but there it is).

This trade rumour doesn't make sense at all...

Doan is 38. Got a family, a ranch in Arizona. Has an "history" with Montreal and its mayor Coderre...

Habs don't need another RW, anyway.
