Taking Evans out of the conversation because i want the Habs to resign him, i would say we might get a late 2nd (using our last retention spot) and bunch of 3rds for those players
Savard at 50% for a 2nd and spare parts/lower picks, a 3d each for Dvorak and Armia, would be a fine return, though they'll cost an added 5th from the acquiring team to get 3d party, pass-through retention.

I expect Habs will ask for prospects and reclamation projects instead of picks, though.

Just sell on Evans. Keep acquiring picks, keep trying to get elite guys at the top of the draft.

This idea that Evans is still "young enough" is again vastly underestimating how long the rebuild is going to go on - there are at least three more years before this team is even relevant.
Continuous tanking isn't a winning strategy, kids need to play on competitive teams, have role models and have to outplay veterans to gain icetime.

Hutson is a better player for needing to beat out Matheson for PP time, and he needs to continue to do so.

I don't necessarily think you are wrong but the reality is that Slaf-Reinbacher-Demidov and co. are not the same as Hedman-Kucherov-Stamkos, Toews-Kane-Keith, MacKinnon-Makar-Rantanen, etc.

You need more elite talent and I don't think what's there meets the threshold for winning it all, let alone attracting cup chasers.

Habs definitely have enough already to be a playoff team within a year or 2 and will add more at the draft and likely add more at the trade deadline.

given the bold, what do you ask?
Rs could use D, esp RD depth. The above suggests Barron is not the answer, but on the off chance change of scenery works, I';; bite if cost is low enuf
A 3rd?

According to what Evans wants and what we can get for him. I offered Jersey fan other day for a 2nd and rights to Gritsyuk. Waiting for a reply?

According to what we can get for Evans. Maybe we should hold out until March 8, for a first? See what happens. But signing him is an option .

Personally I would rather sign a UFA like Giroux. A guy who can play mid line center. Have Beck as fourth line center next season. With Kapanen and Hage in farm system.

I am better with 3rd alone.
counter

Rs do not have their own 2025 4th, but will get one, the less desirable of two, from ANA due to Trouba trade

that pick and Vesey and Leshitshow
for
Barron

Vesey = useful body you might flip for another mid or later round pick, and moving him gives Rs room to promote Rempe

Les is an expiring contract min $ in the A

now Howie, deal or no deal?

I think we go after picks myself. Our pool is full of grade B and B+ types and adding more to it clutters it. Best to diversify and get more picks for 25-27 draft years. Keep the future pool strong even when the current pool matures type of thing.

Doubt we let Evans walk. Unless he is greedy and goes after max money, I think he stays in Montreal. He's been gradually improving but lets face it, he's an OK 3rd line player. Teams will be interested but not desperate to add him.

Makes no sense to not retain Evans who we developed and is at a mature age of 28. Sign him for 4 years and you probably get a value contract

I can see both sides of this issue. Id keep him if he would take a reasonable contract, if he wants to shoot his shot at a bigger deal then he will be a deadline asset that I'm sure a few teams would target.....

A few good assets or a good 3rd line C for years to come....there is no real down side for The Habs...

If he doesn't sign before the deadline he must be traded. They can't keep letting guys that have value walk for nothing....

What value do you think he has at the TDL? 3rd rounder and B prospect? Maybe a late 2nd?

You make it sound like we have a long list of players we let go to UFA and didn't trade them at the previous TDL?

With Montreal all but out of playoff picture looking to move a few veterans. Give younger player like Struble, Newhook more icetime.

Any teams interested the prices are:

Looking for a 2nd for Evans.
A 2nd for Dvorak
A late first for Savard 50% retained.
A 2nd for Armia.
All above have expiring contracts.

Matheson want a first and a throw-in. He's signed for another season after this at 4.9million.

Ok ......

that is optimistic.

I think Evan fetches a 2nd or more at TDL. Savard won't have the same value as last year when the tdl rolls around. I could have believed a 1st then but a 2nd is the most you'd get and only at the TDL. I dont think they will need to retain either, because there is no risk due to the contract expiring.

Dvorak is ok? i guess? Kind of does what is expected of him, misses a lots of chances offensively. Otherwise you dont really hear his name out there. Wayyyy overpaid though. I dont think he fetches a 2nd. I think it is more likely we just let him go at the end of the season.

Armia is frustrating AF - he has all the tools to be a great player and never uses them. He's got good size and hands, a deceptive shot. His only elite skill is puck protection, which he has been using to great effect on defensive missions. Some experts are suggesting his stats put him among the elite in that regard (how relevant those stats are are up for debate). However, his contract is 3.4 M and he tends to be inconsistent. I think what we get for him will be underwhelming, even for those expecting little.

Matheson had a great season last year, but this year, not so much. He's been overplayed since he's been here. I think he is 2nd pairing D, and seems to have a good contract. I think a mobile 3rd or 4th D gets a 1st at deadline, but i question a team's chances of winning the cup if it needs to add a D in their top 4.
