Works fine here, I don't even see "downloading" message - it's nearly instant.
You can try installing XBMC Hub add-on (which is what I use). It will add a crapload of sources for you, will configure it all for you plus keep it updated. Installation is similar to mashup. Just dealing with a different source really.
Before you do that I'd recommend removing mashup source (under System -> File Manager)

The process will take a little longer, but only because we're dealing a lot of add-ons that it's trying to pull for you. You don't actually have to do any extra work, just give it some time to process when you add the source.
This will install, configure & enable Mash Up for you.
As a benefit you will get just about any kind of content imaginable available to you.
