Unless Nyquist suddenly has become a center I don’t see the fit in Detroit. Wings need help down the middle in the worst way with Copp out for the season. After Larkin all they have is Compher, Rasmussen, and Veleno unless they want to move Kasper off the 1st line and try him at 2C or 3C. That’s a pretty awful center lineup for a team trying to make the playoffs.Detroit or CLB I bet
Bubble team
And Evason had him in Minnesota. I think Nyquist is one of those players who has hit his expiration date, which is totally normal for a 35 yo.Pretty sure this is coming down to the Wild and Columbus. Columbus doesn't want to spend premium picks for a rental but our front office knows how important it is to show that we, quoting a certain Finnish player, showing losing is acceptable. Right now Columbus needs a 3rd line winger with experience that can still keep up with the kids and since he knows the locker room Nyquist would check all the boxes.
Personally I would give our 3rd even though this has been a bad year for him and time is not on his side...for those who aren't there yet wait until you are 35 and feeling the pain everyday.
He's good depth, especially if you need an upgrade on a 3rd line winger. Would I trade for him expecting him to be good with my first line? No, but he's not going to cost that anyways. Your talking about a 2nd or 3rd rounder at best."Aggressively pursuing" Gus Nyqvist...
Funny way to frame that, or even funnier if truly aggressive pursuit is going on. Trying to gun up for a playoff run, he's not exactly the type of guy that comes to mind. Seems more like the sort of guy you pick up or take a flyer on because he's relatively cheap to acquire and has occasionally produced reasonably well when playing top minutes with good players.
Retention doesn’t mean much here.A 2nd for Nyquist at 50% is wild. I feel like a 3rd or 4th would have been a lot closer.
He can be a good 2nd liner in the right circumstances. Had almost 70 points last yearYeah Minny had to make a deal like this considering all their injuries. I don’t feel like Nyquist moves the needle much though.
And I hate it here...Nyquist is worth closer to a 4th round pick than a 2nd.
This is a 2nd in next years draft. This draft past the top 20 isn’t that great. People are really hung up on a late second.
