Here are the groups for next year's tournament. Unless the host country is always group A, that I am not sure of.

Group A
USA
Russia
Sweden
Slovakia
Switzerland

Group B
Canada
Finland
Germany
Czech Republic
Austria

Looks like a New Years Eve vs Finland... again.

I think Czech is better than Slovakia, but Austria way worse that Suisse.

Enjoy the pool of death Slovakia... can't say I enjoyed it too much this year.haha

The Czech vs Germany matchup will be real interesting.. I think I'd consider Germany the favorite. A US/Russia/Sweden crossover could lead to another QF loss.. Yikes!

I don’t know, no idea how our team looks like next year. Certainly our top line is missing. Can’t imagine Stütztle playing again if he’ll play for the Sens.

I think the game against Austria will be Germany’s key moment, although I have no idea about the state of the Czech team either :D

Should still have Peterka, and Elias. Reichel is still eligible as well. I don't know about anyone else but that should still be a quality top line.

Maybe Canadians should stop complaining about easy groups when their team could not win this tournament either.

What does wanting to see more exciting matchups have to do with winning the tournament? If we had played in a tougher pool and had teams that could potentially make us face some adversity along the way to the Gold medal game, it’s possible we wouldn’t have looked panicked the moment we went down in a game. Seems like you’re just taking a cheap shot at Canadians.

Make it an eight team round robin with 1 vs 2 final and 3 vs 4 bronze. Best way to ensure you get to see all the good matchups every year.

Slovakia or Switzerland in relegation round... Offf. When was the last time one of those played there?

Switzerland lost to Denmark for two straight years in 2015 and 2016 and were sent to play relegation. Slovakia has not played relegation since 2013, the last year of the 6 team playoff, the same year as Finland last played relegation.

My very good Finnish friend joked that next year would be a return to relegation for Sweden.

With five hockey powers at the moment, there is always going to be one group tougher than the other. With that said, next year’s grouping might be a little more balanced than this year was, though it depends if Germany can keep this momentum going as well as whether or not the Swiss can rebound from an off year.

The group Canada was in legitimately ruined the tournament for me this year. Looks like next year will suck too.

It's amazing how Canada and Sweden are almost always in opposite groups.
