I suppose I could put in the work and figure this out myself, but I was wondering if anyone knew what the groupings are going to be for the WJCU20 2020 in Ostrava/Trinec. I know the Czech group will play in Ostrava. I also know the placings are not yet finalised obviously.

So far:

Group A:
Sweden
Slovakia
Kazakhstan

Group B:
Canada
Czech Republic
Germany*

I'm hoping it's the same groups as this year(sub in Germany for Denmark). Would require the Swiss to beat Finland tonight and lose to USA, and for Russia to beat Finland

The groups go: 1/4/5/8/9, and 2/3/6/7/Promoted. As of now that's the following

1st place
4th place
Sweden
Slovakia
Kazakhstan

2nd place
3rd place
Canada
Czech Republic
Germany

Germany is going to have a really difficult road if the Swiss can't muster exactly 1 win. Canada, Czechs, and 2 of USA/Russia/Finland is damn tough.

If Germany pulls off one upset, a really good team could be playing in the relegation round

Canada
USA
Russia
Czech Republic
Germany

Sweden
Finland
Slovakia
Switzerland
Kazakhstan

The first group will be a war, but even if a team finishes in 2nd place, it wouldn't be as tough as a match-up as this year. Should be fun to watch.

I like my team Finland in the harder group, but as the champion they didn't get that this time. Finland better end Sweden's round robin streak (it never ends).

Actually never mind, Finland goes to relegation games just like after that 2016 championship year ;).

Please do. Maybe we can start a new 48 games winning streak but this time playoff games

Can't wait for next years tournament. Finally out of North America, which means more morning/afternoon game times in the Eastern Time Zone. Brings me back to when I was younger watching games around Christmas holidays at odd times.

The thing about easy/hard group is that with there being a clear top 5 usually there's likely to be 1 tough QF on paper, and to avoid it you need to not be the last among those teams in your group. So Finland/Sweden will be hoping to win that group to avoid the top 3 in the other group, and Canada/USA/Russia will be hoping to not finish 3rd to avoid Finland and Sweden from the other side. This year Canada was last among Canada/Russia and Finland was last among Finland/Sweden/USA so they faced each other. It burned Canada, and Finland used that as a springboard to win gold. The only way that gets fooled up is if 4 of those 5 are all in the 1 group in which case the 1 in the other group can't avoid one. But that'll very rarely happen.

Czech/Germany match should be fun. Czechs usually aren't likely relying on 1 game to avoid relegation, but that'\s a really tough group and Germany may be decently strong next year so you never know.

And that's actually the case. Germany will bring a pretty competative team, certainly better than Kazakhstan and Denmark offered this year.
