God lord, I thought it was 5-1 Finland, ie business as usual, before I looked again. What happened?

its not a coach problem for finland, its just that finland is not better than this. stop blame this on the coach.

Yeah I'd be surprised if it was something much more than coaching. Missing Barkov, Kapanen, Laine, etc. definitely doesn't help though

They had all those in the world cup and only managed 1 goal in 3 games!!!that was this coach debut...

Under 5 goals in 5 tournament games with this coach....i think his system are to blame...weak roster or not..

How to you else explain the absolute nosedive compared to last year??

Marjamäki seems to strangle offense...

But sure there could be other things there too.

Ouch. Feel your pain Finland but Hardy in god mode was just too much. GG France, what a day for you!

luckily the finns managed to win their first game and now will most likely avoid relegation

I was just thinking about it today, but Finland was actually lucky to score two early goals against Belarus.

The Aho and Osala goals were perfect shots, both of them had roughly a 1 in 20 chance of going in. Without those goals who knows what would have happened (Finland would have lost the game, probably in a shootout)

I'm a fan of this sport since 30 years

It's a big emotion to see such a great win in Paris - sorry Finnich fans -

PEB first class player receiving player of the game and making Hardy called by the officials instead of him

We're playing without S.Da Costa & Huet representing 40% of our players with NHL experience

Congrats Team France :yo:

Well. That just happened. Last time was... 2010, I think. We lost to Denmark with the exact same numbers.

Good thing though that we didn't get rid of the coach then.

Congratulations to the French side for winning their first ever(?) ice-hockey match against Finland :handclap:

Our current roster is far from great, but the miserable coaching brings out the worst of it. I'm definitely not expecting medals this year.

I'm loving the Finnish play-by-play guy btw. "Well, this game went as well as Easter for Jesus".

Finns are looking completely idle and passionless.

This is exactly Finland's coach Marjamäki's handbreak hockey. Practically every single game after he became the coach has been exactly looking like this. I seriously think that we are seeing the worst ever Finnish national team coach with him. A coach that completely overcoaches, takes away the speed from the whole team with his idiotic overcoaching and obsessively defensively oriented play style.

An idiot who thinks that playing overly tactically and overly defensively will lead into good results. Pure bs. The best defense is in reality that you have aggressive but still balanced forechecking and courageous offensive play with enough freedom for creativity, so that you can keep the puck more than your opponent. This sorry excuse of a coach understands nothing about these things. Absolutely horrible coach, and Finland will be most probably close to relegation if he continues as the coach for the rest of the tournament. If Kivi, Westerlund or either Jalonen was the coach, Finland would be fighting for the medals. With this piece of crap relegation is a very realistic alternative.

Congratulations France!

Lol at the whole "Help us, Pulju, you're our only hope!" ethos.

Yes, first ever against Finland. I was secretly hoping for a win, not believing it would be possible especially after the loss against Norway. Nice win, good way to turn the media on, we desperatly need it here, soccer chokes all other sports at a ridiculous level.

Well done to France. Pujuljarvi created chances in the 3rd and it really is shocking that he was not deemed capable to play against Belarus and France (from the start)

This was not a 5 1 game but its still a loss and its going to make the Finnish path much tougher.

Is it me or does it seem like the finns are not driving to the net? Like, at all. Forwards seem to go to the sides and start griding behind the net or up against the boards instead of driving to the net.

Also: LOL. What a ridicules game. Worst Finnish team ever.
