What's worse? They underestimated us, rested a few key players and it turned out pretty well for them. They don't count us as a tough opponent anymore and that's kind of humiliating.

Lol the Czech team looked so good in the 1st game against Canada and did nothing but regress since then. Can't see them passing the quaterfinals. (In fact I think Canada will be the only group B that does pass them)

That's not true, the Czech Republic is still one of the greats of hockey, irregardless of this result.

When you say that this team is performing above expectations.

I disagree. I expected them to play well.

I actually hope we will make new heights ... with a bit of luck and, specially, a bit of confidence, we can make it.

I like Fischer.

Seriously? I definitely was underwhelmed by the roster. And ever since the Cinderella run in '13 we looked like we are regressing hard.

I still think after the silver medal, too many people in Swiss hockey were a bit too content with themselves.

NLA power, sweet!!! But it's a shame that SWI will play against SWE in 1/4 finals. SWI vs USA would be more fun.

More like they rested them because it was pretty much meaningless game.

Absolutely! I think everybody in Switzerland is surprised and really happy about this result. I for myself consider a win against the Czech team as a great surprise.

Well USA beat Russia, so CZE vs RUS QF incoming  ... well unless Fins actually win Canada, but seems unlikely and they have a reason not to even try since than they would have to go against Russia.

Don't view it like that ... you are a top team.

We didn't know who we would play in QF. But we knew that we would be there.
Therefore rested some key players who were mildly injured.

Their is not Czech team underestimation at all. Respect.

Kudos to Switzerland though. Your team is incredibly hard-working and plays with ton of heart, but also have some skilled players, and some surprises like Herzog.

Why shouldn't they try to win? The Finns were quite successfull against Russia in the past.

What i see is a bit misterious. Whenever we mix in our NHL stars ... we underperform !

our NLA players do well. (as long as their are not too many NHL players in front ... even then ... )

i think that NLA system is good, fast ... it's own style. Players individualy may be worth less (because if they would be worth more, they would go for the USD accross the ocean) ... but together, the story tells that their is an added value.

as per the cinderella story you mention, some years earlier, they could have done it ... in Germany ;-) . And they were eliminated in QF by Germany 1-0 with like 50 shots agains 20 ... and still lost. (remember Helbling fighting the German coach ) this WC , they could have achieved a SF or even more.

Whatever. ;-) we are happy and we won today.

Well I don't think they care if they play Russia or USA (both teams pretty packed this championship...). Ofc I'm not expecting them throw the game, but I don't think they will put up some great effort if they will start losing. There is nothing to play for in this match, since the fins can't even play for staying in the same arena like we did in this match.

I did not like Fischer and specially I did not like how he was selected even though he had not much previous (good) experience. Nevertheless I like what I see, he did some brave choices that are repaying, the team is playing very well in every player. No underachiever. So many young players doing great. If only we had a Moser / Niederreiter to put in front of the goal we would be even more dangerous, and it already seems that this team has no difficulties in scoring.
Yay

Lucks out by playing a team that just defeated Canada and the Czecks?

If we would be Superman, Sweden would be Kriptonyte.

Sweden is Kriptonyte ... luckily we aren't Superman.

Although this year, things seem a bit different. I was less convinced by the Swedish team than usual and absolutely wanted to avoid the Russians who, IMO, were nothing short than impressive. The main contender.

Well just let hope that it doesnt comes down to luck, but that it will be the team that wants to win and play hard and with offense, that win.

It would be dissapointing to see Sweden lose to a team they actually usually win against, in knock out games, thats true though. But every game is unique, the Swiss are capable to win, if they just believe in it themself.

Sweden lucks out again, even without playing :shakehead No offence Swissbros, I'd love to see you advance.

Whoever plays Finland lucked out, no offence eh? Yeah, it does sound like a diss.

Sweden is like Kryptonite for us indeed. They always raise their game when things matter most, they remind me of Italy in soccer. But let's hope for the best.

or italy to own goal in hockey.

Am I wrong or this bode quite well for next year Olympics? I think Switzerland has the least NHL impact (some secondary minutes by Malgin) of the 8 qualified, right? I hope Fischer manage to keep the core intact and use this WC experience to get to the quarter, maybe even semifinal (dreaming) at the next Olympics!
