Not while playing elite offense. He has the brain for it but isn't top 20 defensively in the NHL as he needs to focus on offense.

Honestly, if you told me I had to build a 5-man unit to shut down the opponent’s best players. And that the players would simply play hockey, trying to score goals and not allow goals against, but that I would only win if the 5-man unit I created was able to shut down the 5-man unit of the other team. I would probably put McDavid on the unit.
