GDT: Group A - May 6 - Slovakia (3) vs Italy (2) OT

Considering that Slovakian players are so reluctant to play in this tournament maybe it's the best that they don't participate every year.

This isn't even surprising to Slovaks. We sent a very weak team of players that are mostly 3rd liner quality even on club level, so hard to expect any of them to take any responsibility on their shoulders and be creative. Also the general public believes the coach and the team manager are just weak, but I rather avoid that discussion.

This Slovak team can't score and it would be a huge surprise to me should we somehow make it to quarters, in fact I'll be surprised by any win.

I really feel terrible to Slovakia.. my first WHC was in 2002 when you beat us at the final and won your gold. You have put up great results now and then, you have (had) good players to send to the Olympics... What has happened? How can it be that 15 years later you are not even in olympics quarters, world champ quarters and losing versus Italy? :shakehead

Well we are definitely better than this. This roster is in reality a B team given the number of injuries and refusals. Add to it a really weak coach and such a result as today's is not even that surprising. The youth hockey seems to be once again producing solid talents, in couple years we'll be back as Top7 nation. :) Heads up.

Oh and we just tied, but that doesn't change anything about what I just wrote.
 
Was prepared to say Italy has never won against Slovakia at the World Championships. While that may still happen, this is the first time Slovakia has ever conceded points to Italy, and then I took a look at the Slovak roster; not exactly bringing their best this year, so not a big surprise.
