Johnny Gaudreau legitimately could have had 6-7 points. One of the best games he's ever played.

Please get Eichel off his line. Guy just can't keep up mentally with him.

Gaudreau would be a superstar if he played in Europe.

He's sublime when there is lots of time and space.

Wth?

That line was dominant today because of the way they both played together. Eichel has no problem keeping up with Gaudreau mentally.

I just finished watching the game. I want Eichel to be great as much as anyone (he grew up 20 miles away from me) bur I said these exact things after his U20 and tge were repeated today:

1: his teammates dont know where the **** he's going to skate, throw the puck, etc.... Its a team game, Jack!! Follow some sort of structure!!

2: Jack hasnt a clue how to WIN a game. He has no instinct for throwing it at the net, attacking with urgency, etc... The last shift today reminded me of the short handed shift that ended his U20: I kept thinking, 'why is he on the ice?'

That line was dominant because of Johnny Gaudreau's lightning quick and precise puck movements.

Eichel wants to hold onto the puck too much and slow the game down.

How are the semis the second round?

Because there's only one elimination round before them?

And Gaudreau tends to do more on his own and not involve his line mates as much.

Eichel was the best player on the ice against Italy in the exhibition game, and the second best player on the ice tonight. Gaudreau was the better player tonight, but it certainly wasn't because Eichel had trouble keeping up with him mentally.

The line is playing well because of both of them.

Eichel was nowhere near the 2nd best player on the ice tonight. He was just way too slow with the puck.

There's a difference between slow and methodical. I agree he took his time far too often looking for the perfect play, but it was because Germany stacked 5 guys between the dots and clogged the lanes so nothing was getting through from the outside. Great defensive scheme by them, the Americans just spent too much time trying for the goal line shot instead of just ripping it at guys legs until they thought twice about giving them that much room to shoot. That defense is great for blocking shots, really hard on shin pads though, and the US tried to be fancy instead of powering through.

It is a good result for the home country. I always felt that Germany is capable of becoming more competitive internationally with their population and economic resources. Positive results and more exposure such as hosting a tournament should help. They are only a generation or so away from being amoung the most competitive nations. Perhaps wishful thinking, but I will remain optomistic.

People go to the games but they don't play. That's what's holding them back.

People also go to formula 1 races, what's holding them back?

I played hockey for 20 years, but I hadn't had a rink in my hometown. So for the first five years my mum had to drive me to every training and game. Later it took me almost an hour to and an hour back from the rink by bus until I finally got my license and could drive there on my own.

The south of Germany aside there is a huge lack of rinks. Hockey is just not as easy to play in terms of costs and availability as football (like real football :sarcasm: ) or handball, therefore people will tend to get their kids into those sports rather than in hockey.
