I can't for my life figure out why some players just are straight up better in the NT jersey, I'm of course referring to Edler. Is he just better on big ice?

Must have missed something. Did Nichushkin end up getting cut from the Team? Was under the impression he was going to play

1-0 after the first. Best news though, it seems they finally changed that god awful goal song. Even a Mamma Mia techno remix is an upgrade

Dang! Joel Lundqvist rockin the C??? Didn't even notice.
He's considered a veteran on a quite young team, it's the 90s generation taking over here. He always gives 100% as an energy player.

He may be. He has more time to consider his options on the big ice than in the bathtub.
Here we go...stupid penalties
I think Omark did a smart move there. I have no idea how the Swiss ref saw that holding of the stick, even on the replay. It was a weak call though, because the Russian player kind of held his arm around him.

I am very entertained so far, the game has a very high tempo and it's clear the Swedes want to play as physical as possible against Russia.

No way, this is a classic.

Though my opinion is heavily based on singing this with an entire group from Västerås at the World Juniors.

If any of you were there, I was your singing companion. :yo::yo::yo:

Why are the Sweden forwards so bad? Seems like lots of guys decided not to come this year?

Bäckström, Forsberg, Silfverberg, Hörnqvist, Rakell, Zibanejad are still in the playoffs.

Nyquist, Wennberg, Zetterberg, Sedins, L. Eriksson declined for various reasons. Personally I have no desire to see the old guys on our team anyway, they havent cared for the NT for a decade (except for olympics).

Agreed. All Swedish top forwards are still in the playoffs. There's not much left to pick from and those who are out, are old and worn. They've done their part. The big gamers, Bäckström, Forsberg, Rakell and Silfverberg are still playing. Also alot of excellent depth players are still playing.

It's not difficult to see that the forwards are the weakest part of the Swedish composition, but since the defense is so important and Sweden is absolutely stacked there, it's still a very strong team. As for goalies, all goalies hold a very high level at this age. Fasth, Läck, they are not game changers, but they can hold their team in the game and be solid.

I'd also blame Doug Lidster, the Canucks defensive coach for Edlers play. If he plays anything like he is now then we are in for a treat next season.

ROFL that penalty on Hedman, WTF? "2 minute penalty for poking your opponent."

Considering the stuff they let go of in the 1st period, that is an absolutely ridiculous penalty. I thought the ref had a good level in the game until that. Mistake.

Shipachyov dropped his stick like a champ and that's all IIHF refs need.

It's like "somebody checked my stick? shieeet, we don't do that here".

On my stream looked like a decent call. :/ Stick was chopped from behind, he had no idea when to "drop" the stick. Ill give him benefit of doubt

The vaunted russian PP hasn't looked all that impressive. No need to give them more chances to practice though...

They haven't been good nor bad either, but the Swedish PK has been very solid as well, as they usually are. The two-way game, skating and passing has been Swedish qualities for decades.
