And why is he ending his NT carreer now? I mean, as you said, he could wait one year and say goodbye at home WC.

I'm not able to answer that. I mostly watch NHL and never read too much about Danish hockey or follow the league. Just watch Green on the NT and love that he is always playing his heart out.

My guess would be to avoid the potentially awkward situation where next year rolls around and he's not good enough to make the team but you don't want to cut your long-term captain. In that situation whether you include him or not, no one looks good.

Next years team should be strong and there may not be a spot for him. I would think it's reasonable to expect 3 of the 6 NHL forwards next year as opposed to only 1 this year. If Niklas Jensen goes back to Europe next year he would be a lock as well. The top 2 lines at last years juniors also look promising and have a chance for spots in the coming years. I'd think From makes next years team and 1-2 of True, Rondbjerg, Krag, Blichfield and Andersson could be in the conversation if they make a jump next year.

With that being said a year is a long ways away. If Green can maintain his current level of play it wouldn't shock me if he was convinced to come back for one final Worlds at home.

As the Swedish commentators just mentioned, why do these hilarious own goals always happen against Denmark?

I can't stop laughing. This might even be better than the Japanese own goal.
