Blunt and honest article. To be honest also correct, I feel sorry for the kid. His been messed around and given no real chance here. Stuff like this makes it embarrassing to be a Sabres fan occasionally. Buy him out, let him have a chance on a team that aren't worth of the title 'worst team in all of sports in every category'.

And yes, I've seen him play. His making mistakes and looks like a high talent kid, just needs time. His problem has been that Ruff wasn't a good coach for us in his latter years and neither was Rolston. Nolan isn't a good coach for a young team, especially for a player like Grigorenko so his been no good either.

That article is not "blunt and honest" its phenomenally stupid and melodramatic.

Seconded. There isn't anything new and factual thrown into the article. He also puts the counter argument into his article before he even states his main point, Zadorov and Ristolainen had better tournaments and they aren't coming up to Buffalo. Not only that but they both looked better in the NHL than Grigorenko has. Zads is going back to juniors. That's the correct decision. Grigs should never have been brought up in the first place, 9 games and goodbye. I expect next season he sits in Rochester.

Its a poorly written, poorly supported, opinion piece.

If I were Grigorenko – I would be demanding the Buffalo Sabres buy me out of my contract and let me hit free agency early. There should be no reason to carry on the charade any longer. The team doesn’t want him to play in Buffalo, so why force him to watch hockey? There are certainly teams in the National Hockey League that will sign and use him, or he can go play in the KHL where he will get the ice time his skill level calls for.

That is the dumbest thing I've read today.

haha...

Yes..a 19 yr old is destroyed.

A 19 yr old who if kept in Juniors would still have the same issues problems and warts as we see today.

It's growing pains...deal with it.

Sounds like a major problem with the 3 coaches. They ruined Leino too.

Yes, but I would bet that if Devine could go back to the draft now he would not draft Grigorenko again.

The reason he dropped to 12 is obvious after seeing him play. He relies on skill, not effort. He reminds me of Robbie Schremp (EDM) - Amazing in JRs, cant play in NHL.

He needs time in the AHL to develop his compete level.

I won't give the website a click of the link. An awful premise and a pathetic concept to think about for someone so young. The paragraph quoted above was enough.

****ing awful.

19. Nineteen. NINETEEN.

He's got years to develop into an NHL player.

Not even going to bother giving his site a hit. He'll get plenty from the impatient lunatics.

Agreed. I'm not as mad as most with how the Sabres have handled him. I think the kid needed a wakeup call. Isn't it better that he realized how bad his skating, strength and compete level was at 18/19 rather than dominating the Q and realizing it at 20/21. Would he have worked on his skating so much in the offseason if he started out and stayed in Juniors?

The only valid thought in that garbage "article" is that the way that Grigs has been handled may create a risk of him fleeing to the KHL. If we still had Regier at the helm, I'd think that was pretty much the guaranteed outcome.

Buy him out? Why in TF would we buy him out? How would that even remotely make sense?

I appreciate this article. After shoveling for 45 minutes in -30 weather, then to find out my car wouldn't start, I was in a pretty bad mood.

I read the article and it made me laugh. Thanks.

It's just way too early to judge whether someone has been ruined or not. First, as it's been mentioned, he's only 19. There's so much time for him to work on his obvious deficiencies. The fact that he's far away from Buffalo is really what's going to help his career. Bring him back when he's a little stronger, and works a little harder, under more stable circumstances, and watch him flourish. Sure, he could bolt for the KHL, but I don't think anything that's happened to him at this point would be reason enough for him to do so.

Terrible article written completely biased.

But as much as Buffalo is at fault here, so is the whole league. Bringing players up too early is a consistent problem. Dumba could yet be "ruined" by Minnesota in much the same manner.

The league had the chance to fix this in the last CBA. The draft age should have been moved back to Jan 1 ensuring all players have 3 years major junior (or equivalent) before being drafted, and putting in provisions to allow them to go the the AHL after being drafted. Very very few kids can play NHL at 18 so its not a huge loss, but getting 19 yr olds into the AHL allows proper development of guys like Grigerenko by putting them against a more appropriate peer group. The CHL gets their huge superstars for an extra year, loses some very good players to the AHL a year early.

This has been a constant theme for years. The NHL can fix it. It should be done.

That is the dumbest thing I've read today.

Yeah, the article was fair until the 2nd to last paragraph, and then when it hit the last it seemed like a different writer and went completely irrational and off the rails.

The rumors of the demise of Grigorenko have been greatly exaggerated.

I'm old enough to recall when the idea of a teenager playing in the NHL was nearly unheard of, but now if they havent figured out the NHL by 19 they are ruined.

Article comes across to me as someone who reads the Buffalo News and listens to WGR for hockey insight.

Hmm, no mention of the fact that Grigs can't skate. How is that Buffalo's fault?

Look it's no secret that the Sabres under Regier handled him poorly but a lot of that is on the player too. How many times have we heard his lack of compete in practice while he was on this team?

He's 19 years old. He's less developed than all of our other "young guys" at the moment. He's about as far from a finished product as anyone.
