It looks like the goaltending and defense from one year to the next was vastly different. In the first year all the top guys scored more and were plus players. The second year scoring was down and they looked to be truly terrible defensively. Connor Brown was -72 on the year.

Maybe they were tanking for McDavid?

Maybe, but coach Ftorek was fired in the middle of next season and replaced by none other than our AHL head coach.

IIRC the concerns were skating, off-puck play, and whether he processed things fast enough. He didn't really make any noise until his draft year and was a bit of a riser. I remember quite a few people here wanted him in the second round.

He fell off at the start of his last year because he played on the worst team in the CHL. They won 10 games. He picked it up when he was traded. But he never lit the world on fire because he wasn't that good. The London team he went to was loaded--him, Namestnikov, Jared Knight (was a big prospect), Max Domi, Athanasiou, Austin Watson, Chris Tierney, Maatta, Bo Horvat, Scott Harrington, Josh Anderson, Jared Tinordi, just crazy.

Also Tommy Hughes and Troy Donnay.

Just a thought. Doesn't McKegg given you the feeling that he might very well score a HUGE goal in this upcoming series. Akin to a Matteau, Matteau, Matteau goal?
Any contributions from our 4th line will be huge. We're not exactly used to that anymore.

it will not be surprising if any of the 3 bottom 6 ex-Canes (McKegg, PDG, Gauth...) score against their former team
As long as they outscore Skjei ...

He hasn't scored a goal since the beginning of March, so he's certainly due.

McKegg has been buzzing on the fourth-line this season. He’s been one of the few forwards on this team who seems to be able to sustain offensive zone pressure, and he’s skating like his life depends on it. For a player who was widely considered a 14F leading into October, he’s looked like an actual asset so-far.
