Huh, this may explain why wearing green was verboten on your wedding day. Interesting.

FWIW, that superstition goes back much farther than Victorian times. Green was once associated strongly with fairies, who were considered mischievous and borderline-evil rather than the benign little Tinkerbells we think of now. It's also been long associated with envy (Shakespeare coined the phrase "green-eyed monster") and that's not exactly a sentiment you want to bring to a wedding party.
