This is a fantastic start for this team. It really is. Some light X and O breakdown for there neutral zone trapping and how they switch it up to keep teams guessing.

I would love to know the offensive tweaks too....

Did Lavi play this style in his other stops?

Kuznetsov said something about Lavi making them play styles they weren't comfortable with which is why they stunk with him, so sounds like he tried lol

I'm surprised this team has been so receptive to it. I think they just craved any kind of coaching.

Edit: But didn't Barry Trotz coach them, why were they comfortable then?

their top players were good then. they declined and got bad under laviolette, but don't want to face the fact that they're over the hill so they blamed it on the coach

He wasn't comfortable because he was high as a kite.

I had a strange dream where multiple people on the board were saying anyone but Laviolette this summer. Good thing it was just a dream :)
Lavi with his best friend assistant would have been rough.

The team did an outstanding job with the assistants imo. Still early but IMO things should only get better

Please explain. Mean that seriously, how can you derive that from those stats? Thank you ahead of time.

I'm not an expert by any means so maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong. But:

1) I didn't just go off those stats. It LOOKS like we allow a lot of odd man rushes. I also read a few games back that we were.

2) As far as these stats go. Shots, cycles, and slot shots are "in zone stats". They point to us not being in our zone a whole lot and when we are we don't allow much. However, we're 1st or 2nd in those stats but 6th in expected goals. So what other type of high danger chances that bring our expected goals up to 6th even though we allow the fewest or second fewest in zone stats? Odd man rushes. Those have a big bang for your buck in terms of quanity vs. quality.

@Machinehead, am I reading this right?

Most likely it. Our vet core aren't nearly as old yet. Still in their prime. Or should be. Zibanejad is off to a really slow start, but not sure it has anything to do with new systems.

Gallant is like, i tried something revolutionary. The 1-1-1-1-1 man to zone defense. Players are responsible for any man within the zone between the boards. Just skate until you find someone or something interesting and go from there. Very instinctive and no instructions necessary.

Didn’t have anything to do with Kuzy being a lazy, spoiled geezer? Of course not. Work ethic and discipline are the primary Capitals associations lol.

Some players I tell ya …

Pens fan coming in peace…

Lavy would be one of my favourites for the Jack Adams through the early part of the season. It’s hard to argue the work he’s done so far.
I liked him in Carolina the way I liked Torts in Tampa. Both played different systems than they do now, showing tactical flexibility and knowledge, and both did a great job with young stars (MSL / Lecavalier and Staal).
