In the grand scheme of things we turned two players acquired as cap dumps into a 1st and 4th round pick.

This also goes to show how silly it was to worry about tying up all 3 retention slots. I doubt the return would have been much more than this even if we were able to retain. It was always the correct decision to use those slots on the highest-leverage contracts we needed to move i.e. Burns, Karlsson and Hertl.

After Grier’s comment about Askarov-like trades, I sort of assumed he was in multiple conversations about Dmen which is why I imagine he went hard for a 1st without bothering to get any other prospects, players, etc. Genuinely think there’ll be a trade for this pick in the near future or before the draft.
