The Preds are struggling right now and are looking to move some pieces. The bigger contracts (Johansen, Duchene & McDonagh) are probably immovable so we have to move some smaller pieces.

Granlund makes sense as he's a bigger-salaried player that is becoming expendable in our re-tool. Plus, we need to shed salary in order to extend Jeannot, Fabbro and Carrier.

Preds would be looking for prospects or maybe picks.

So, is he of any value? What would be other teams' offers for him?

Granlund at 3M has plenty of value, just look at all the other players making ~3M and compare what they bring to a team compared to Granlund.
I think so too. He's as versatile as they come and durable as well. With the cap being so tight, I'm having hard time gauging his value.

I don't think he fetches a 1st, although he has two years after this one left on his contract. Maybe a 2nd + a prospect would do it? Poile usually prefers prospects over picks.

I would be interested in hearing 2 bids: the one at $3M (Nashville retaining $2M), but then also the one at the full $5M. Because frankly, unless David Poile changes his MO, I don't see him retaining $2M on Granlund for 2 more years after this one. For the right return, us fans would do it. But I'd be shocked if Poile would.

Pretty sure every contender that has cap, will give a 1st for Granlund. A low 1st for a defensively sound 50-60p 2C/2LW at 3M is cheap as hell. Colorado, Canes would probably be interested and maybe Buffalo also?

He’s on pace for 7G 38A (45 points). Not sure that’s 2nd line production on a contender. More like 3rd line defensive presence. A 2nd + prospect seems appropriate here. Good player, especially in the right role.

It`s not like he would have that same pace on a better team. Put the guy on Colorado or Canes, where he has teammates that finnishes his passes and he for sure has over 50p. Granlund is 4th on Nashville in points. 3rd of the forwards, so essentially 1st line points in Nashville.
Lehkonen was 3-4th liner on Montreal and in Colorado he is playing Top6 and is pacing 60-70p.

Also, at 3M he will for sure fetch a 1st. Who in their right mind with cap wouldnt pay a low 1st for 2 full seasons + 1 postseason for a 50-60p C/W at 3M????

hes not getting a 1st. A 2nd sure.

thr isdue is who is interested AND has the cap space.

problrm for nashville is that they are going to be tight against the cap next year. Retaining on Grandlund snd replacing his roster spot with an ELC only creates sbout $2M in cap space.

a better option might be a straight trade in the off season that is more cap neutral but maybe bringing back a contract e pitting sooner than his.

I have always liked Granlund. But can Nashville fans explain the low point totals he's got this season? I don't see enough of the Preds to know what's going on.

Is Duchene unmovable? I could see Carolina interested in him if you are willing to retain a little....what is the ask for Duchene 2m retained?

Short answer: John Hynes

Longer answer: Well, actually (up until the last 10 days or so) Hynes has generally been madly in love with Granlund and played him waaaay too much. So why are Granlund's points down despite that? Some of the young centers have bumped him from being #1 center to wing (Parssinen, Glass). But Hynes still just takes a total line blender approach, before and during games, so Granlund can play with just about anybody on any given night and chemistry is hard to come by for everybody. Plus the Nashville PP is in the tank again. He would get some more points if the PP was decent again (like last year). I don't think Granlund really belongs at center, although he has tried admirably to do that for us that last couple years. But really it's a tall ask for any player to produce consistently in the swirling chaos of the team right now, regardless of who that player is. He has 8 points on the PP so far, compared to 28 last year. So really, the 6 or 7 points he is down on the PP makes the whole difference between a 45-pt and 60-pt pace for him. And that's mostly a team-wide issue.

I don't think the fanbase would consider him immovable at all. Most of us would be happy to move any of Duchene, Granlund, or Johansen... they're all good/ok players, just we dare to hope we have some youngsters coming up who can be good/ok players a lot more cheaply.

But we seem to have a bit of a disconnect atm with what management is thinking. So whether they'd consider any of them movable, or especially if they would entertain retention... I think it's very doubtful. :(

Any interest in Beauvillier with a B prospect for Granlund?

Beau has one year less and $850K less per year for the remainder of his deal.

Well, that would be for Granlund without the retention, right?

Generally speaking, I think part of the motivation in moving Granlund is that we think we have young players coming up (e.g. Tomasino) who can step right into his spot in the lineup and replace him immediately. So taking another player back in the deal ought to be less interesting than maximizing the prospect/pick component.

There in lies the problem. TBH we've never really seen Poile retain on much of anyone, especially in the long term. I mean the fact he actually bought out Turris was kind of a shocker for most of us.

We as fans would move most of these guys with some retention just to create space for younger players and to get some value from those assets, but I don't think many of us believe Poile is willing to do that same thing.

1st 2024 + Jesse Puljujarvi $3m pending RFA for Ryan McDonagh $2m retained.

Puljujarvi you can walk away from in the summer so the deal sheds you $4.75m for next season. Oilers moving the 1st for retention as McDonagh at full cap hit just doesn't have that value.

Worth noting Granlund has some of the worst advanced analytics in the league. Explanation?

To Nash - 2nd and Adam Beckman

To MN - Granny at 3 million
That’s not a retention calibre offer either is it? I don’t believe Nashville would do retention to begin with, of course. But we have no shortage of okay forward prospects and a mid 2nd isn’t much of a draw.
