Elliotte Friedman reported it during the 2nd intermission of the Sharks-Sens game. The headlines segment with Ron and Chris Johnston.

This is Gorton's 5th season as GM. He most likely signed a new contract in 2015 when he was promoted to GM. The Rangers don't discuss contract terms and money for their executives. His deal was mostly likely expiring sometime after next season. We would have heard about it if his contract was expiring after this season. Six year contract in 2015?

Drury is in his 4th season as AGM. He is probably making more than some current GMs are making. Carolina doesn't pay their GM big money. There are probably other teams in the same boat. Minnesota wanted to interview Drury for their GM job after Fenton was fired. Buffalo had some interest after Murray was fired. The Rangers denied permission in both situations. Maybe he doesn't feel ready to be a GM yet.

JD came in and worked with them for one season. The Rangers extended Gorton and Drury. JD could have made changes if he wanted to make them.

Drury grew up a Rangers fan and maybe doesn't want to move out of the area. General Manager of the Rangers might be his dream job but asst. GM of the Rangers might be for him the next best thing and if he's getting paid commensurate with other GM's around the league. Both of them have done a great job IMO. Whether the Rangers make the playoffs or not they are making a real bid for a spot and we have the youngest team in the league and all kinds of great prospects.

Panarin is an elite player and Zibanejad is at least on the verge of that. Shesterkin very possibly will be another elite player soon and the sky's the limit for guys like Fox and Kakko. The Rangers look like a future powerhouse. All of our best players are on the right side of 30 and most of them under 25. We're even set up well for the next couple drafts. If the Rangers don't make the playoffs this year they should easily make it next year barring something like a pandemic catastrophe anyway.

Gorton deserves it though, he has been much better as a GM than $ather ever was. That's not saying much though, but he has mostly made good decisions. $ather usually made the wrong one.

my gosh, the list of Sather misses and bad contracts is long. His drafts weren’t much better. A bit concerned about Gordon’s drafts so far but these players are still kids.

One of the better farm systems in the league and you are concerned about his drafts??

Happy with this, guy is a good gm on all fronts

He's had missteps but at least you can look back and see what he was trying to achieve by taking those steps. He has a vision for this team and I trust in it

JD obviously likes what he sees and given his track record in Columbus and St. Louis that gives me some comfort.

Lias and Kraskov taking off to Europe does concern me along with Lindbolm(spell) in Round 2 was odd
That does not factually change anything that I said. We are not discussing questionable draft choices or decisions made by players and team. None of that changes that fact that most consider the Rangers farm system as among the best in the league.

Of course it changes things b/c the players took off to Europe after the rankings came out while drafting Lindbolm is still a questionable move.

That still have absolutely nothing to do with them having a strong pipeline of prospects.
