I also remember the somewhat unorthodox fighting tactics. He would try to use his reach to either get his opponents jersey over their face or get himself on the outside to throw punches. He wasn't a fighting heavyweight even at his initial size in the NHL (6'5" 227lbs). Then he lost about 15-20lbs a few years into his career to improve his skating/endurance enough to stay in the league in a role beyond just a 4th liner.. At that point he needed those tactics more and he also lucked out by the fact that the amount of heavyweights has steadily declined since the early days of his career. Just another example of him adapting himself to stay in the league.
