What are these in-game adjustments you speak of. All he did was realize his new lines are getting stomped, so went back to the old ones.......
It's a shame you didn't watch the game.

Early on, Keefe double-shifted Matthews between Kerfoot and Nylander instead of Kampf on O- zone faceoffs, for example, long before he put the old lines back together.

If you had paid attention you would have seen several instances throughout the game where it wasn't just the same-old, same-old.

I can think of some other coaches who would never change a game plan, no matter how badly it was working. That's probably why Keefe has one of the best winning percentages in franchise history.

2 game in a row Rielly just look awful defensive side. Every goal detroit scored was on a rielly mistake and was similar against ducks. He need to be better, he cant still playing that way.

Holl and sandin was awesome together again easyly by a miles best def the last 2 game. I really like how they play together

Solid insight. I'm in agreement. Reilly needs.to be a vital part of the team on the defensive side if this teams identity it to be "defense first".

Holl/Sandin have been a strong, warrior-like pairing. Sandins broader potential has shined the last few games. He can play a physical and responsible game.

Since Peewee:) A good chance he outscores Hyman based on YTD.

As much as I liked Hyman, I'm liking Bunting more so far. He's like Darcy Tucker from back in the day where he plays with grit, has skill and is a pain in the ass to other teams. Good on Dubas for finding players who can help the team for a bargain. They don't always pan out, but you really only need a few signings to succeed to being doing a good job.

Leafs finally recover from their early season shooting slump and finally creep up into the top 5 in goals per game.

They also for the first time rank higher offensively (#5) than defensively (#6).

Hyman is a tough player, but Bunting has a nasty, mean streak that Hyman doesn't have.

At the end of the period, Hyman would probably shake your hand. Bunting would probably spit in your face or kick you in the nuts. The Leafs need that kind of edge. The Ken Linseman type of play.

I think Bunting is quicker, has better hand to eye coordination, is younger, cheaper and more talented. Plus, plus, plus, plus and plus :)

Love Hyman. But Bunting definitely gets under the skin of the opposition in ways that Hyman never could do.

I guess other teams do get tired and gased by the third period on the 3rd games in 4 nights and back to back.
I think that was a big part of it.

When the Leafs made their break for the finish line the Wings just deflated and couldn't find that extra gear.

Good on the Leafs for realizing that and siezing the moment. That finish didn't happen by accident.

I played minor hockey and football growing up in Winnipeg. Bunting reminds me of some of the assholes we played against in the North end. They were relentless, and knew which buttons to push before and after the whistles.

In fact, they still irritate me 45 years later.

That's a good thing for a player like Bunting. It's part of his game.

He is becoming our Brendan Gallagher. Good to see an underdog hometown boy who wanted to come home win over the fanbase.

Most do, Cherry was correct in that regard. Lets face it most hockey fans in Toronto cheer for the Leafs. A lot of players from the GTA represented in the NHL. Now once they get established somewhere else it may be different but in the 1st few years it's safe to say they are Leaf fans.

I did watch the game. They got out played or at best were even (short stints) for most. None of the pre-old line stuff you point out would have amassed to anything but an L. Once the old lines went back together the game became a cake walk. I mean I don't know what else to say about, that's literally what happened.

You take your optimal lines, cook up something random, then you have to dip into the blender until you go back to the same exact lines you shouldnt have touched in the first place and get credited with amazing coaching?

You have really low standards for great coaching then.

What this was, was a lesson for Keefe to don't touch things that aren't broken.

Good post. There are Similarities. He is not scared to play in those dirty areas.

I’m liking Pierre on the 4Th line
I hope this continues for him and most importantly for the Leafs ..
But on the 4th … no Shame in that at all …
Go Leafs Go

Right!? He's been skating so well lately, and really keeping his game simple. If he can keep that up, no reason he cannot continue to contribute as he has been recently.
