Leafs have been on the other side of this kind of game plenty of times in the past. play a more talented team well for 2 periods, only to have them come back and son you in the third because they have the top talent and you don't.

Their goalie Nedjelkovic is also a basket case at times so it’s nice to be on the other end of getting Toskalol’ed instead of a steady diet of one night Vezina candidates.

Nylander doesn't seem to be running with his third line assignment, so the next time the Leafs want to spread it around, maybe they should consider this:

Matthews Line
Marner-Nylander Partnership
Tavares Line

I'd love to see this for two reasons. Firstly, I've wanted to see Marner and Nylander play together for a long time and secondly, I believe it's a good idea to try different things and the more looks we can throw at our opponents in the playoffs, the tougher we will be to play against.

The other angle is sometimes Tavares doesn't have his offensive A game, so if he can settle into a grind role for the evening and give you defensive minutes, attrition time it frees up everyone else to attack. Let him figure it out playing that mucking game. Just all about different looks.

I'd be interested to see Tavares with Kase and someone like Mik or even Engvall. Big guys who can pressure pucks on the left while Kase/Tavares can grind

I like the pinball thing.

I guess he makes a good bumper.
There's only one Pinball in this town.

I know Tavares gets heat from time to time about him possibly being on the decline and stuff but the guy still produces. His skating is definitely on the downswing but he has at PPG and pacing to score over 30 goals again this season.

For his Leafs career gems average over 30 goals per season and is producing at a PPG pace.

Yeah I don’t think he’s lived up to the $11 mill AAV but his contract hasnt been as a bust by any means.
He's been productive throughout. Just hope he doesn't have a Marleau-type decline from one year to the next.

If I was at the next Leafs home game, I’d throw a Bunting hat on the ice after the first whistle
Good luck sneaking in!

Yeah, when you go into that stance you could have a Matthews Line, Marner/Nylander on the attack and then Tavares doing spot duty on a hard grind line. I could see that being a good 1-2-3 punch where the opposition isn't able to key in on anybody on the first two lines and then Tavares is going head to head against their big line to cancel things out.

Hell of an effort and play.

His whole shift right from intercepting the clearing attempt at the blueline to gathering up the Wings attempt at getting the puck deep enough to facilitate a change to out muscling Leddy for the loose puck then sending a perfect pass to Sandin for his shot at a gaping net should be used in a how to hockey video for kids. Such keen understanding and situational awareness of the game.

Holl has been very good since coming back. Give him 3rd pairing minutes with Sandin and pk minutes and he's slotted appropriately.
Yeah he’s fine bottom pair if there’s an injury. Fully healthy he still looks like the odd man out to me.

Don’t be blinded by the haters, even though the Leafs are the only team who is allowed to be openly criticized, everything from their record to the general appearance of the players…

Anaheim, Detroit, LA, whoever else is coming up - their fans would sacrifice whatever they had to whoever they could to be the Leafs.

Excellent star-power win, Mrazek was not good but Blashill decided to turtle with a suspect at best D and what happened happened.

What a simple look at a complex issue. Playing the Wjngs is like playing bantam team from Coboconk.
You really think that handicapping one of the top 3 players in the NHL AM, with just anyone so Marner looks good.
Who is with AM, Simmons and Ritchie? Myckie and Kerfoot.. every coach in the NHL would love that.

What's really impressive is that I think he glanced at Nylander but then saw Sandin coming down and made the split second decision to pass it rather than leave for Nylander. With Ned already square to Nylander and a couple of Wings closing in, may not have been a great scoring chance.

Just an amazing play by JT

Huh ? Are you implying they were invisible ? Because that really wasn't the case. Did you see Marners assist on that pass to Bunting ?? That was godly stick work.

I also saw Matthews slacking, and Marner passing to the other team and didn't see them scoring. Not quite playoff ready though because Marner didn't shoot it over his own boards.

They weren't terrible, they just need to be better if we hope for a better playoff outcome.

As does Petr.

Read what you said..it is poop.
Not caring who plays with AM, as long as the love of your life Marner can play with Nylander. Get a flippin grip.
You cannot see how other teams would love that.

After being reminded that "Pinball" is taken, I will change Engvall's nickname to "Bumper". A big target that pucks bounce off of is more appropriate for him anyway, heh.

When he has bad games, it really stands out. But when Tavares is on, he still looks as good as ever. He's still an elite player
Still one of my favorites on the team. Thing with JT is as I mentioned before is when he has off games, it's never a work ethic issue, it's an execution issue. He's still a star C in this league.

Not the most flashy, but strength on the puck and some of the best hockey IQ in the game has made him one of the most consistent star centres in the league since being drafted. He's a perfect compliment centre to Matthews above him.
