To start off, I respect the USA Roster

That said, I’m proud of what our young Canadian men have accomplished already, but not to the point of being cocky about it

Learn to ignore trolls, especially during international games, they are the worst.

That being said, your point doesn't really make sense. He obviously cares about hockey and at a high level for an American since he even watches the World Jrs to begin with. But that has nothing to do with the fact that hockey is a niche sport in the US and very few hockey fans there even know that the WJs exist.

Now, on to the troll's claims....the US does very well in sports internationally if you go by Olympic results, but it's so hard to compare how well they really do vs their peers in the professional sports leagues.

NFL-Only played in the US. Can't compare.

Baseball- Only the US/ Japan and some Latin American countries play it and most don't want to play in international tournaments or care about them since almost no press or fame. Can't compare.

Basketball- US dominates and is quite popular in many countries. Can compare, US #1.

Hockey- US is decent in hockey and getting better but nothing to really write home about yet, unfortunately. Very few Americans have ever played one ice hockey game in their life. Not a very popular or accessible sport here. Casually watched and casually played except in a few northern states.
Can compare, US average for their potential.

Soccer- US is below average, not very popular, or played at a high level by many inside the US.

Football and basketball are the most popular sports in the US but they are even diluted a bit by how fragmented the US population is by sports preference. The US does not have the same level of passion for any sport in particular as Canada has for hockey or South America/ Europe has for soccer.
I will say that American Hockey fans are true fans. Maybe a better way to say it is there aren't many casual hockey fans in The States. Nothing compared to Canada, of course but pretty passionate considering its "niche" status.

If the Americans had trouble with the Finnish forecheck, I don't see how they can live with this Team Canada. This team would probably win the Škoda Cup, too.

Maybe team USA out of respect and love for Canada will let them win and take the gold ?
U S should set some goals, obviously thinking they could win is too lofty but hey being the only team to score an even-strength goal against us gives them something realistic to shoot for.

for all the people complaining about a 9:30 start time: get over it. The Wild will be playing tons of games that start at 9/9:30 out time this year.

It's actually pretty sad that the US is so bad at soccer despite their massive size.

Let's face it, College players aren't that good. Except for a handful over the years, even Hobey Baker winners Barely make 3rd lines.

I'm all Canada in this game, but this is just foolish. Off the top of my head:
Gaudreau, Mullen, Guerin, Toews, Dryden. Not enough? How about Eichel, Tkachuk, Blake, Heatley, Nieuwendyk. More? Weight, Kariya, Larkin, Keith, Broten, Hull, etc. etc.
C'mon man.

Ofcourse I need more, much more, we are talking number of players becoming stars from a whole league, over decades. Even if you came up with 50 names that isn't many .

There are tons of casual hockey fans. These are the people who make up the majority of NHL's fanbase. Sports fans.

True hockey enthusiasts are a rarer commodity. It's why things like the WJC are ignored in this country.

You make a good point. Clearly, the US has plenty of general "sports fans" who are happy to go to an NHL game simply because they might see a fight. No question. My point is that there are pockets in the US where the hockey fans are pretty committed. Boston, Minnesota, Chicago, Michigan, etc. Certainly not comparable to Canada but...

Fitting that it's Cozens vs Zegras to close out the tournament - 16 points a piece and you can bet one of them is getting tournament MVP.
