can't be too upset with the result. sucks to lose but I love seeing how much this means to Finland.
I thought the guy was exaggerating in the first couple of pages saying that if Canada wins it won’t be a big deal, while in Finland they’d party in the streets all night. They’re really doing I think! Fun night in Finland.

Im not sure why Finland are considered underdogs, they beat us twice, Sweden, USSR, and even Great Britain.
You guys simply have a really good team and hockey program as far as I can tell and you should be proud of that.

Wait what?
Canadas drop off is from say 500 points in NHL this season to 300, Finland is from 350 to 0..
Yes because Finland went from their A squad to B squad, while Canada went from their A squad to C squad. Most of these players wouldn't make Canada's 2nd Olympic team, and only maybe one or two of them would have been on Canada's olympic team (Stone and Murray likely as a backup/3rd string).

Anyways I was more just responding to that poster and not taking anything away from the Finns so I'd rather not comment on it anymore. Finns played a great game and deserved the gold after knocking off Russia and Canada. Congrats to them on a well deserved gold medal.

Torilla tavataan! Let's see at the marketplace!

This is true. I watched the game at a bar and there was hardly anyone there.

According to the commentators over 50% of Finland watched their semi-final win over Russia.

We actually had KHL players say no as well, so this was C team..

Depends on what country you live in. Looks pretty close to a tie to me. This one is every bit as special as Lake Placid was for the Yanks.
That's subjective experience. Not objective fact.

This game:

SM-Liga players beat a mishmash team of playoff eliminated NHLers.

Matt Murray is in net rather than who can realistically be identified as the best goalie in the world (to be analogous to the 1980 Soviet team having Tretiak)

This Canada team is not one that have played together for the better part of a decade and trampled over the international hockey world.

1980 Miracle on Ice

A group of college kids who never played one minute of professional hockey beat the most unstoppable international team in the Olympics on the way to the gold medal.

This win was a tremendous accomplishment but the level of difficulty and mismatch of talent isn't analogous.
