I don't even know what people were bashing Nylander for. He's an incredible hockey player. I don't even think he's a cocky player. He's really confident but he doesn't go around acting like a fool at any time in the game, doesn't play dirty, doesn't dive, doesn't embellish. He just goes out there and plays his game.

Yup, the complaints were made up. Thankfully, Shanny identified that and was laughing all the way to the bank when we selected Willy.

Our hatred of the shootout goes back to 98. I hate it in general, but I do understand why it is needed at international events where they share the ice. I would absolutely remove it in the NHL though.

Congrats Sweden. Willy and Backstrom were electric.

I see the point of it in tournaments except in the Gold Medal games. There is nothing following up the final game. Just get rid of shootouts in finals.

Pretty good game, sucks they couldn't 3 peat but it came down to a skills comp and Swedes came out on top. Replay that shootout and it could go the other way.

Congrats to the swedes, I always am a fan of their players and playstyle.

Happy to see a few of the Avs have great games/tourny.

I heard somewhere we have never won a gold medal game against Canada before. Canada is amazing but that's still pretty astonishing for a hockey nation like Sweden. Just sucks it had to be in a shootout, doesn't sit quite right even though I'm happy.

I almost agree, although I think Marner should have been a healthy scratch this whole tournament.

Should have petitioned Seattle and Erie to release Strome and Barzal. Still shocked Lawson Crouse didn't make it over Marner.....

I thought before that Nylander would have been soft smallish player. He got that pretty face and hair but I was truly impressed by his play. And when it mattered the most he stepped up to even greater level.

All the hockey played this afternoon and only the OT period of this game was entertaining at all. Glad the sun's out, at least.

About stopped watching this one half way through the third because I'm pretty sure the only shots up to that point in the period were from along the boards or the point. Big ice just doesn't facilitate scoring chances.

Yep. The number of championships won is inconsequential if the tournament itself is meaningless. 9 best-on-best titles >>> 27 non best-on-best wins.

I know its kind of a pseudo World Championship, but it feels good, to get that #10 against Canada, will look good in the history books.

It is no excuse for gold medal game since it is the last game and OT/SO rules are already different for each stage.

Maybe if you didn't have a history of belittling Marner at any opportunity. Why not bash the overall shooting selections then? Why just Marner. I mean, Scheifele had a better season than any of the other shooters? Why just the one you constantly ranked as 9th in his draft class?

I don't think anyone reasonable would. Although, saying we had the worse goalie is fair, but that's more because Lundqvist is a legend.

There is zero doubt about that. I was only saying Pickard played well. He is not elite. As a Rangers fan I have been spoiled having Henrik.
