Born and raised in Germany. Lived there for 27 years. So tell me again, what difference does it make where I'm from? If you are a neutral observer you KNOW this tournament was crap hockey. Sure, nobody really denies it was exciting, but then again throwing toddlers in the ring seeing them duking it out can be exciting too.. doesn't mean it's great boxing though.

Don't let your patriotism cloud your judgement. Team Germany wouldn't have gotten out of the group stages if the NHL participated.

Well they didn't, what's the point? Russia, Canada, USA, they all have way more professional players with or without NHLers. Russia had 4 weeks to prepare, Germany 1 including traveling to Korea. It was a great run, it's silver in the end. If Canada had won they'd be boasting about their incredible depth and how they can ice 100000 teams that could beat any other team. Now little hockey Germany won silver, fought Russia until OT. It's a great day for German hockey, don't know why you're trying to taint it.

This one is gonna hurt while.

But if you told me before the tournement we are gonna win Silver before the tournement i would have called you a crazy fool. I am really proud on what the team accomplished. Danke Jungs!

I don't mean to blame one player for the collapse in the third but that Seidenberg guy screwed up real bad on the PP. He tried to blast a slapper through the two Russian forwards when he had a teammate open on his left and right. When the puck went out to centre he rushed it back to the Russian blue line and dumped it in. It's like he thought Germany was losing and in desperate need of a goal.

So for the next 30 years every national team game shown on German tv will have footage of Kaprizov scoring in OT instead of Draisait's puck not crossing the line in '92. Oh well I guess it's a step up :)

Actually not. Norway still sucks worse so.

That was only a headline in the most notorious and stupid tabloid. Nobody celebrated that.

Let's not kid ourselves. German's are huge bandwagon fans. I was born there, lived there for 3/4 of my life. If a German would suddenly dominate the World Wheelbarrow Racing Circuit they would stay up and watch it at 3 AM regardless of how silly it is.

Why is it so hard to admit that this tournament wasn't exactly a tournament that displayed the best hockey athletes in the world?

North American's views and European views on international play are very different. So while Canadians and Americans make discount this Russian win, I'm sure it's very relevant to Russian fans. Congrats to them as well as they were clearly the best team in the tournament.

But Germany was the story of this tournament and I hope hockey can start to thrive there. It stings now, but what a story. :)

Thank Bettman for it :). Each Team is each country's responsibility, you could've brought everyone you wanted, but something else seemed more important.

I wonder if NBC will try to "incentivize" Bettman to bring NHL players back for the Beijing Winter Games.

That's was a great game. Congrats to Russia winning gold and Datsuyk on becoming the newest addition to the Triple Gold Club. Congratulations to Germany on getting a silver medal and making it all the way nearly pulling one of the greatest upsets in Olympic hockey history.
