News Article: Goaltending Guru Benoit Allaire is officially scaling back in his role.

He is the most important person in the entire organization and the one who should take the most credit for whatever success this team has had over the past few decades. To seamlessly transition from Lundqvist to Shesterkin along with having many backups play above their heads (Raanta, Talbot, Quick etc.) are major factors in why we're not a complete and utter joke of a franchise anymore.

Any idea who can replace him? I don't get the sense that Hank is interested in the role. Mitch Korn just returned to Nashville. Sean Burke probably can't be pried out of Vegas. He has done magic in Arizona with Bryzgalov, Mike Smith, Kuemper, Hill, and more magic in Vegas with Thompson, Hill 2.0 (probably told McCrimmon to go get him), and even Brossoit. Bill Ranford in LA? Bob Essensa in BOS? Those two have been in those towns for so long they probably aren't going anywhere. Maybe lure Ian Clark out of Columbus?

good, maybe our goaltending will take a step back and it'll force the front office to assemble teams that can play actual NHL hockey.

Welp... It's not like we live and die by our goaltending or anything....

In all seriousness, the guy is entitled to be as involved as he wants. I hope he enjoys his next phase. He's certainly entitled after such an incredibly successful two decades of coaching for the team.

Thank you Mr. Allaire.

None of the big names are going to want to work under one of the biggest names like Allaire, especially if Benny will still be involved on the ice from time to time.

May be a silver lining, maybe the Rangers can bring in an up-and-comer whom Allaire can mentor.

Steve Valiquette runs a private goaltending school and his own analytics company. Couldn’t find a better candidate anywhere, yet alone within the MSG sphere. Let him learn (some more) under Benoit and we should be fine.

I think if Vali wanted to be a coach, he would be. I'm sure he's got his hands full with what seems to be a successful analytics company and media appearances (which market his analytics company), I doubt he dumps that for a chance at NHL coaching.

He wasn't working alone so I can pretty much guarantee that's already been done. I wouldn't automatically assume that this is a good thing either, there are plenty of coaching trees that are filled with weeds.

Not being involved in the day to day isn't a big deal. though He'll be around and Im sure will be involved if and when he is needed.

Not mad about this at all. The man is in his 60s. He's earned it.

Maybe this will teach us to score some damn goals.

Might as well try this and see where the chips fall. Get scored on more, learn to play better 5v5.
