I wanted to create comprehensive summary of the pre-1990 goalies playing in all major international tournaments with full statistical and award account to the maximal extent that is known and discovered up today. Here´s what I suppose is the current state of knowledge… and I hope it´s OK to make a longer post like this, my goal was to have everything summed up at one place.

Olympic Games 1964
1. Boris Zaytsev (USSR): 2 games / 0 goals allowed / 18 saves / 0.00 GAA / 1.000
2. Seth Martin (CAN): 6 games / 5 goals allowed / 145 saves / 1.22 GAA / 0.9667
3. Kjell Svensson (SWE): 4 games / 8 goals allowed / 118 saves / 1.76 GAA / 0.9365
4. Viktor Konovalenko (USSR): 6 games / 10 goals allowed / 122 saves / 1.77 GAA / 0.9242
5. Vladimír Nadrchal (CSSR): 6 games / 15 goals allowed / 165 saves / 2.58 GAA / 0.9167
6. Juhani Lahtinen (FIN): 7 games / 31 goals allowed / 290 saves / 4.43 GAA / 0.9034
7. Pat Rupp (USA): 6 games / 22 goals allowed / 201 saves / 4.02 GAA / 0.9013
8. Ulrich Jansen (W. GER): 5 games / 30 goals allowed / 268 saves / 6.00 GAA / 0.8993
9. Lennart Häggroth (SWE): 3 games / 8 goals allowed / 70 saves / 3.25 GAA / 0.8974
10. Ken Broderick (CAN): 6 games / 12 goals allowed / 101 saves / 4.16 GAA / 0.8938
11. René Kiener (SWI): 2 games / 17 goals allowed / 131 saves / 8.50 GAA / 0.8851

World Championship 1966
Unfortunately, records of goalie saves, published in game reports of the 1966 World Championship produced by writers of Československý sport, were very scarce. Goalies with a full record were only three. Five other goalies had published their numbers of saves in at least half of the games they´d played in. This is what I´ve got…

Goalies with full statistical account of this championship:
Ken Broderick (CAN): 3 games / 2 goals allowed / 66 saves / 0.9706
Vladimír Dzurilla (CSSR): 6 games / 10 goals allowed / 91 saves / 0.9010
Jiří Holeček (CSSR): 2 games / 5 goals allowed / 31 saves / 0.8611

Goalies with partial statistical account of this championship:
Viktor Konovalenko (USSR): played 6 games, allowed 7 goals in total;
stats from 3 games (vs. CAN, SWE, USA) / 3 goals allowed / 47 saves / 0.9400
Peter Kolbe (E. GER): played 6 games, allowed 20 goals in total;
stats from 4 games (vs. CSSR, SWE, CAN, POL) / 13 goals allowed / 142 saves / 0.9161
Seth Martin (CAN): played 4 games, allowed 8 goals in total;
stats from 2 games (vs. USSR, CSSR) / 5 goals allowed / 54 saves / 0.9153
Leif Holmqvist (SWE): played 5 games, allowed ??? goals in total;
stats from 4 games (vs. CAN, CSSR, USSR, E. GER) / 13 goals allowed / 71 saves / 0.8452
Rod Blackburn (USA): played 4 games, allowed 19 goals in total;

Summit Series 1974
...Stats for goalies that played in the Summit Series 1974. Let me know if full statistics of this series are somewhere on the internet, I couldn´t find them. So I went to look for the game reports of this series too and reports show the number of saves for all but 1st and 3rd game. Only website where I could found the remaining stats for these two games were on French wikipedia (of all places!), where the information is provided for the first 3 games.

I know this mash-up of stats from two sources is far from ideal but still… I think it´s better than nothing. So here it is, Summit Series 1974 goalies:

Alexander Sidelnikov (USSR): 1 game / 2 goals allowed / 24 saves / 0.9231
Gerry Cheevers (CAN): 7 games / 24 goals allowed / 215 saves / 0.8996
Vladislav Tretiak (USSR): 7 games / 25 goals allowed / 213 saves / 0.8950
Don McLeod (CAN): 1 game / 8 goals allowed / 40 saves / 0.8333

World Championship 1975
1. Jiří Holeček (CSSR): 9 games / 14 goals allowed / 212 saves / 0.9381
2. Anti Leppänen (FIN): 7 games / 15 goals allowed / 214 saves / 0.9345

3. Viktor Krivolapov (USSR): 2 games / 3 goals allowed / 40 saves / 0.9302
4. Vladislav Tretiak (USSR): 8 games / 18 goals allowed / 221 saves / 0.9247
5. Leif Holmqvist (SWE): 7 games / 22 goals allowed / 200 saves / 0.9009
6. Göran Högosta (SWE): 4 games / 12 goals allowed / 89 saves / 0.8812
7. Jorma Valtonen (FIN): 3 games / 19 goals allowed / 124 saves / 0.8671

8. Andrzej Tkacz (POL): 9 games / 41 goals allowed / 263 saves / 0.8651
9. Blaine Comstock (USA): 4 games / 32 goals allowed / 187 saves / 0.8539
10. Tadeusz Slowakiewicz (POL): 5 games / 24 goals allowed / 127 saves / 0.8411
11. Jim Warden (USA): 7 games / 52 goals allowed / 253 saves / 0.8295
12. Jiří Crha (CSSR): 2 games / 5 goals allowed / 20 saves / 0.8000

- Report of the game USSR vs. Poland (13:2) does not show the number of saves that each goalie recorded. Therefore statistics of Krivolapov (+2 goal allowed), Tkacz (+8 goals allowed) and Slowakiewicz (+5 goals allowed) are incomplete. The game is not counted in this table so these 3 goalies played in fact one more game each than the number presented above.

Great job.

How often did a goalie win the tournament best player or most valuable player award?

Rarely.

IIHF introduced the MVP award at World Championship 1999 and since then, only 3 goalies (out of 20 championships) have won the award (Dennis Endras in 2010, Viktor Fasth in 2011 and Pekka Rinne in 2014).

Olympics - it seems that the MVP award was created for 2002 Salt Lake City. Goalies that were named MVP: Antero Niittymäki in 2006, Ryan Miller in 2010 (so 2 goalies out of 5 Olympic tournaments since 2002).

Canada Cups/ World Cups - MVP award was introduced since the start in 1976. Goalies that were named MVP: Vladislav Tretiak in 1981, Bill Ranford in 1991, Mike Richter in 1996 (so 3 goalies out of 8 of these tournaments).

Great compilation. I have only looked at the 1964 Olympics.
There are some minor changes after some careful study of the goalies by various hockey historians.
They went through the official statistics and newspaper reports, breaking down everything on a game-by-game basis.

The following minor corrections were made.

2. Seth Martin (CAN): 6 games / 5 goals allowed / 150 saves / 1.18 GAA / 0.9677
3. Kjell Svensson (SWE): 5 games / 8 goals allowed / 120 saves / 1.76 GAA / 0.9375

Complete (almost) aggregate stats of 10 goalies of my interest (alphabetical order):

Vladimír Dzurilla (CSSR):
- 12 major international tournaments between 1963-1977.
- Although I´m not aware of complete goalie stats from WHC ´63, that of Dzurilla from this (his 1st) championship can be found here on this link, p. 25. So we have 100 % complete statistical account of Vladimír´s int. career.

- 67 games / 131 goals allowed / 1237 saves / 0.9042

Dominik Hašek
(CSSR):
- 8 major international tournaments between 1983-1990. I´m only looking at Hašek´s pre-NHL career.
- 53 games / 132 goals allowed / 1194 saves / 0.9005

Jiří Holeček
(CSSR):
- 13 major international tournaments between 1966-1978.
- 76 games / 150 goals allowed / 1761 saves / 0.9215

Leif Holmqvist
(SWE):
- 9 major international tournaments between 1965-1975.
- EDIT: 100 % complete record now.

- 50 games / 126 goals allowed / 1147 saves / 0.9010

Viktor Konovalenko
(USSR):

Complete (almost) aggregate stats of 10 goalies of my interest (alphabetical order):

Leif Holmqvist
(SWE):
- Important note: stats from 1 of Holmqvist´s game from WHC´66 (Sweden vs. Poland) are unavailable

Viktor Konovalenko (USSR):
- Important note: stats from 3 of Konovalenko´s games from WHC´66 and from all of Konovalenko´s games from WHC ´63 and ´61 (most likely 10) are unavailable, so Viktor, in all likelyhood, played a total of 53 games over his career.

Seth Martin
(CAN):
...following stats come from OG ´64, WHC´67 and half of WHC ´66 only.
- Martin seems to play exactly double the amount of games in total, i.e. 28 career international games. So this statistical account represents only his 50 %.

I'll help you out so that you can fill in most of the blanks

Perfect! Thank you very much for this addition, RGO! I have now updated my summaries above. It´s basically 100% complete now for everybody (except for lone 3 games of Konovalenko at the beginning of his career). Very interesting to see Seth Martin´s numbers like that...

While we´re at it... Would you be willing to post here the goaltending numbers for these early 60s tournaments (1961, 1962, 1963)? Or even earlier if you have them? :)

Or send me a link / email and I would write it all down here?
