Post-Game Talk: GM 65 | Canucks def. Flames | 4-3 (SO) (Suter, DeBrusk, EP40 - Garland SO winner) | Don’t Touch Our Captain!

  • HFBoards is doing server maintenance Thursday March 13th at 9 AM GMT 5 AM EDT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.
  • We are currently aware of "log in/security error" issues that are affecting some users. We apologize and ask for your patience as we try to get these issues fixed.
That's the whole point of the Miller trade with EP right?

"HERE'S YOUR MOMENT, GO GET IT OR WHO THE f*** ARE YOU?"

Yep. I know they’re slumping, but we just aren’t going to win a lot of hockey games with them on the bench in big moments. Some of our other guys might have more pluck and work ethic, but there’s a reason most of them haven’t come close to being consistent offensive players in this league.

Ride your horses through their slumps.

feels like i’m watching travis green hockey

there’s no system, guys just skate it into three defenders waiting for them, zero puck support from teammates, no semblance of passing options. the coaching staff making the game hard, not easy, for the players.
Toccs is great with details

But the players are overwhelmed by it. It's painful listening to them flounder when talking about what is expected of them

Toccs needed to simplify the message . . .

. . . six months ago

They were getting trash offers for Boeser (because he’s not very good) and the only slightly better offer came 30 minutes before the deadline. They weren’t going to be able to flip that pick for any help up front.
With or without boeser they aren't making the playoffs

Now boeser will walk for nothing when we could've used that 1st in the off season to help upgrade the team for our last chance to convince hughes to stay

Why did they have to flip the assets? Why aren’t we allowed to have draft picks. So frustrating

Hughes is walking or getting traded within two years. I've just accepted it. Every time I see him make an amazing play, it just makes me sad now.

I used to have a THN subscription. I believe the quote to begin the year we were picked to finish 12-13 in the West and quote "Thank God/Buddha for Sedins and Luongo".

Turns out hockey journalists know about as much as I do about hockey.

I think I still have copies of the season previews from those years at my parents place somewhere, and old journal entries from high school English class where I predicted the standings at the start of the year and the playoffs.

Pretty sure I out-performed their predictions every year as a teenager  Got every single first round series in 2009 correct too, would’ve been sick if gambling was legal back then.

It wasn't a 1st straight up though. If it was then he prob would have been traded.

IIRC the dominant voices in national media have intimated the offer was KK + 1st with 30 minutes left.

I'm not taking that deal after they hemmed and hawed for months. f*** 'em. They can do what they love best,

losing in the 3rd round.

I’d go the other way. Play them through the shit. Play him, Petey and DeBrusk for half the damn third. We need a goal, ride our best players until they play their way out of this funk.
Boeser has been complete liability at even strength without Miller it's not a funk it's just a reality that he's a function of Hughes/Miller.

Boeser doesn't want to get his hands dirty which is what is required when you aren't scoring. Go to the net, take a cross check, and fish for rebounds/deflections. This dude has completely thrown in the towel and is already checked out to somewhere else.

Things are never as good/bad as they seem.

Literally every media outlet was exploding at the Canucks after that year to rebuild, saying they had zero shot at winning the division or ever competing with that group of players after they collapsed down the stretch.

I remember reading The Hockey News magazine, where Adam Proteau said every team in the Pacific could win the division EXCEPT Vancouver going into the 08/09 year.
The difference is we saw guys like Burrows, Raymond, Kesler and Hansen take a leap forward that disaster season. I remember feeling good about out group and was ecstatic when we added Bernier (who flopped).

Every forward on our team looks like booty. We have no young forwards aside from Lekk knocking at the door.

Pretty sure mine were much better, but in their defense they probably aren't nearly as autistic as I am.

I didn't have many friends back then...

It was from what I saw and I could be wrong here. Boeser and a top prospect for late 1st and KK. I don't want to take on KK contract nor do I want to give up a top prospect.

Nope — we’re self-rentalling him because we’ll be in 10th place within 2 points of a wildcard spot!
