Glad I'm not the only one who noticed that. Was so off. When he's on, he's making those reads to be in the right spots
He didn't skate on to the puck twice when it was chipped in, and then he did that weird spin thing when Hronek tried to pass to him before the EN goal

I still don't understand why this team refuses to opt for controlled zone entries and instead have this weird obsession with dump and chase, in a 6-on-5 you should be able to gain the zone with a controlled zone entry

You'd think but the Habs can just stand their blueline and pray the extra guy gets in the way. Not that I don't hate dump and chase with a burning passion, but it's useful.

They were not standing at the blueline though, there was plenty of space out there, they were not trapping the neutral zone up.

They never came up with a puck on any of the dump ins. Whoever was pursuing just looked soft. Can't generate anything if you don't win a battle.

Which is just an awful look in the last 5 minutes when youre pushing to not win a single battle.

Montreal won more of them. They had that extended shift when D-petey got mixed up with the refin the corner

What's painful is just how slow this group of forwards looks. I mean they can't win races to the puck; they can't gain any separation; and when they do gain some separation, they quickly get reeled in.

This off-season Allvin needs to start prioritizing forwards with some speed. The league is rapidly growing away from them.

Just not enough talent on this roster. It’s not that they aren’t trying out there. Our forwards are terrible and that’s on management to fix.

We have no elite forwards.

There is zero fix aside from drafting and developing guys. The UFA class this summer sucks and I expect the 2026 group to suck once Eichel, McDavid et all re-sign with their clubs.

Lol this earn your ice time business doesn't apply to Myers I guess lol. Even MPetey couldn't babysit him this game.
DeBrusk Petey Garland Boeser literally did not earn their ice time and Tocchet still decided to run with them at the end of the game. Can’t really blame him but jesus christ we are lacking real talent.

They have been noticeably worse since Miller was traded. I honestly didn't expect it to be this blatant.

They've lost Miller's Ozone creativity and will be hard pressed to replace it.

This team actually looks alot like Tocchet's Arizona Coyotes.

Their leading scorer in 2018 was Keller with 47 pts in 82 games. In 2019 it was Schmaltz with 45 points
Silver lining is they drafted Guenther and Cooley.

Tochett brings in draft luck

I mean last game people said that you gotta play your big guys even if they're sucking cause they give you your best chance to score.

This game people gonna say they got too much ice time even though they were sucking.

Essentially the formula will be wrong no matter what unless you win.

At this point, sit Hughes for the rest of the season and make sure he’s fully healthy for next season (and keep him healthy for the trade deadline because we are going full scorched earth soon)

Aquaman won't let that happen.

He'll summon tactical giant clam!

Ahem...

I'm just going to come out and say it: getting rid of Mikheyev (and paying to do so) because he has poor finish was a counterproductive and reactionary move. I thought so at the time but didn't want to get raked over the coals here. For a team starved for speed, having a guy who can contribute to chance creation, even if he doesn't have the best hands, is useful.

If Mikheyev never played for the Canucks and was rumored to be available now, folks would find him an intriguing possibility.

Yeah that was my point, and probably Tocchet’s too. It was damn obvious he said screw it and was throwing those guys out there even though Brock was turning it over and doing ballerina spins all game and DeBrusk did not even exist. Played our big guys and it did nothing — we have no elite talent
