Hughes is the second most dominant player in the league, full stop.
Hard to quantify what he does in the d zone compared to somebody like McDavid who racks up points, but to have a defenseman who gets the puck out of the zone like a machine and scores 90 points... If he can get 100 points this year, you have consider him up there with McDavid as the most dominant player in the league.

I thought I heard Friedman saying during one of the intermissions that Hughes is in the same league as McDavid.

TBH surprised by the reaction DeBrusk had been getting. We knew who he was before he signed. Been the same guy forever. He's hot for ten, then shit for ten. Felt the same about him when he was on pace for like 15 goals and 40 points as I do now when he's on pace for 35g and 65+.
disagree. i did not like the signing. to me he was a player who did not fully use his size and seemed to take care to stay out of the way of being cross checked with the bruins and tried to score off the rush or from the slot. he seems to be getting greasier lately and i like what i see. maybe i missed the games where he played like he is right now or the bruins and it won't last.

one thing i will say is he is doing what boeser was doing around the net before he got hurt. maybe they switched roles.

it’s very funny that this is exactly how DeBrusk has always been. Streaky as hell but when he’s on is a lethal goal scorer.

Also huge props to Pettersson for that performance. He doesn’t have any explosiveness to his game right now but is a possession monster at both ends of the rink and is thinking three moves ahead.

I think he's realizing that in order to be effective, he has to be like Yzerman and completely restructure his game. Stevie went from an offensive superstar getting 130-150 points a season to being an elite two way forward averaging PPG. And that's when they started winning Cups.

No, I'm not comparing Pettersson to Yzerman or this team to the Red Wings. It's just an example that it can be done.

Brannstrom has a great shot, really underrated and can beat goalies cleanly. We've been missing that a lot, as pretty much only Hughes can do it consistently. Hronek doesn't score a lot anymore.

There’s that and I don’t think anyone knows if he will ever get his speed back. There are times, and I’m watching him closely, where he should burst onto the puck or close a gap and he just can’t do it. Everything else is extremely effective and he’s working as hard as he’s ever worked.

Vinny with another -2 game. The guy is a trainwreck out there. They need to find a way to shelter his minutes even further. Ideally, he is only out there for the PK.
We have too many dmen to shelter though. Vinny and Juulsen should both ideally only spend time on the PK. And Myers and Soucy need protected minutes. We haven't see enough of Forbort to know, but he seems like a PK specialist as well.

We have three playable dmen for the most part. One of them is injured. One of them is still kind of proving himself. And one of them is amongst the greatest players to ever wear the Canucks' jersey.

It’s the one thing he’s legitimately good at.
Shame about every other time he’s on the ice.
he's a great depth guy that will put his body on the line every chance he gets....even after all the injuries he's had. 5 shots blocked today. still only 134 GP, so should continue to improve.
