DeBrusk is proving a lot of people (including myself) very wrong. He's notoriously streaky, so it remains to be seen if he keeps it up. But he's stepping up in a huge way to fill the void left by Miller.

Lankinen gets an NHL record - now the only goalie to start an NHL season 10-0-0 on the road.

Hughes with another 3 point game - he's the best defenceman in the NHL. 28 points on 23 games, on pace for nearly 100 points. Back to back 90 point seasons and another Norris would firmly cement him ahead of Makar.

Talked shit about the DeBrusk signing and then he dominantes.

Whelp.
TBH surprised by the reaction DeBrusk had been getting. We knew who he was before he signed. Been the same guy forever. He's hot for ten, then shit for ten. Felt the same about him when he was on pace for like 15 goals and 40 points as I do now when he's on pace for 35g and 65+.

Should consider load managing him here for this Minnesota game, which I've been circling as a schedule loss this entire road trip. Throw Silovs in there to protect Lankinen.

it’s very funny that this is exactly how DeBrusk has always been. Streaky as hell but when he’s on is a lethal goal scorer.

Also huge props to Pettersson for that performance. He doesn’t have any explosiveness to his game right now but is a possession monster at both ends of the rink and is thinking three moves ahead.

DeBrusk could not have picked a better time to catch fire. We needed players to step up big time and they have. Between him, Pettersson, Garland, Lankinen, Suter, and of course Quinn Freaking Hughes, this squad has stepped up their game

Classic Sportsnet with zero post game coverage just to shove the Bruins in our face. No one in Vancouver cares, the disrespect this market gets is just crazy. On the plus side, Shorty and Tomlinson have much better chemistry this year. On to the game:

Debrusk - Picked the best possible time to get hot. Team has needed him with Miller out, and he's stepped up big. Hopefully this version of him is around in the playoffs.

Petterson - Great game, had confidence in making plays with the puck. Wasn't afraid to shoot, but got blocked a lot. Next step is making those moves a bit quicker to open up those shooting lanes.

Hughes - All world, if any other defensemen played like this my whole post would be about them. Bobbled the puck a bit early, but just put the team on his back afterwards.

Lankinen - Just ok. Some good saves late, could've held his net stronger on the later goals.

Suter - Continues his great year. Been big while Miller is out.

Hoglander - Continues to hurt the team more than help. If there are any teams that want him, trade him. Team needs help on the PK, so it can even be a straight offensive winger for defensive winger swap.

Heinen - Struggled a lot today. Missing the net, bobbling the puck, and weak clearing attempts. Usually his calling card is he's neutral when he's not hot, but today that wasn't the case.

Penalty kill - Continues to be a concern. Everyone talks about the PP, but in the last ten games or so it's been particularly weak (sub 75%) outside of the Buffalo game. If they're going to survive this time without Miller and be a stingy defensive team, they need to get better on the PK.

Tocchet - Bad challenge, but team continues to get Ws. Crazy that the team is a top 11 team in goals for but people think he sucks all the offense out of them.

Successful road trip, regardless of the outcome in Minnesota. Hopefully the reinforcements arrive as the month moves on.

Chaos Giraffe was excellent today, aside from a couple of chaotic plays. He has stepped up in a big way. Other than a horrible pizza in the first period, Juulsen played pretty well and showed lots of courage in blocking those shots. Brannstrom and Deharnais were not good but fortunately Branny can actually create offence from the back end which the team really needs right now.

Team is showing some serious resiliency during this rough trip and with the injuries we have.

Had no business winning in Boston and things evened out against the Penguins I guess, and the last two games have been scrambly, but we ground out the wins.

We aren't a top tier team, but we're also missing our Top C, Top 2D, top goalie (a wash with how Lankinen has been playing), with a few key cogs still ramping up from injury/time missed.....

If we can bolster the defense via trade and get everyone back healthy by mid-January, we could be looking at a very fun second half of the season.

imagine we can hold the fort until Demko (day to day for 8 months) , Hronek and Miller come back...... who knows how long the latter 2 will be out, could be months

Vinny with another -2 game. The guy is a trainwreck out there. They need to find a way to shelter his minutes even further. Ideally, he is only out there for the PK.

Hughes now at 28 points in 23 games. Hes not that far off of Makar at 32 in 25 (1.21 pts/game vs 1.28), while being significantly better across the board on every important advanced stat.

Guy has improved every year for 3 years now. I thought he couldnt get better than last year and boy was I wrong.
Considering the high end forwards Makar plays with the points gap is essentially nothing.

In fact it's quite easier to argue that Hughes has been better offensively based on that.

Jake DeBrusk is on Fire!
Hughes was great!
Suter is so underrated, really smart dependable & versatile player.
Brannstrom such a good pick up.
Terrible coaches challenge by the Canucks lol.
Canucks finding ways to win without Miller & Hronek, awesome to see.

EP was actually pushing play today. He doesn’t need to be blowing by people all game, but he needs to be confident with the puck rather than hiding in soft ice.
