Hoglander had a bad game so him and Sprong can do their thing on the fourth line but Bains isn't the guy for top six role on this team at this time.
I like the kid but he needs way more reps in the bottom six/Abbotsford first.

What makes this very interesting is that Joshua is due back very soon. Possible he gets a conditioning stint but is activated for the start of the road trip on Saturday. It almost looks like Bains and Juulsen are getting auditions to keep their roster spot.

I like how they stumbled into Brannstrom trying to ditch Poolman, otherwise the defense would be a complete disaster. We're now poised to play Juulsen (who to my recollection hasn't really had a solid game in nearly a calendar year), over our two NHL defense UFAs. Maybe we should stop letting Tocchet and Foote have input on "project defensemen".

Bains is fine on 4th line but I don't get where this obsession is coming from to keep trying him in the top 6.

Please be A but that's also 3.5 million in the press box.

It's probably B because that's what they commited to in the offseason, and ditching it 8 games of the season is likely too early in their eyes.

To me that's the wrong call if we're going purely off merit and how each has played this year, but I don't get paid to make these kinds of decisions. If anything I'd want to test Brannstrom on the right side with Forbert, or try him again with Myers as the two looked much better together than Soucy and Myers have so far.

So if Joshua is not going for a conditioning stint and will just play low minutes to start curious when he plays. I would love to get him in because he can't keep trying Bains in the top 6, but given how quickly tocchet seems to make Hoglander his whipping boy, it might not be good for Hoglander if Joshua can play Wednesday. I can see Rick scratching him.

I don’t think Wednesday is a possibility. Saturday in San Jose, maybe.

I hope people don't expect too much out of Joshua right out of the gate.

This is a guy who has struggled a bit with conditioning and getting up to speed in both of the last two years and now this year his body has been through cancer treatments and he's coming in having much less summer training and no training camp. I suspect he's going to be a step behind the pace for his first month or so and probably should have his minutes limited.

agreed. bains rotating through every couple of games with joshua seems like a perfectly reasonable option to start, and then depending on how long it takes for joshua to get up to speed you can get bains back to abby to play more games.

After all the years, nice to see the infallible Canucks tradition of fourth liners on the top line remains. Brings me back to the bygone days of Trent Klatt and Taylor Pyatt.

Given how well Brannstrom has performed, his increased ice-time, and Tocchet's praise of him, I'd be shocked if he was scratched.

I think that Forbort is the extra only because he needs to get another practice in.

I'd say tomorrow it's Brannstrom - Juulsen and then Saturday will likely be Forbort - Brannstrom.

Why aren't the Devil's sending Nemec down to get some game action, instead of sitting him as a 7th D now that their blueline is healthy? Can't be good for his development.

Also, Forbort-Desharnais will get eaten alive by NJ's speed, if they do play tomorrow as a pair. Same thing with Juulsen but hopefully Brannstrom can help him out a little bit.

Forbort-Desharnais won't play tomorrow. Tocchet talked about playing Juulsen since he's not sure if Forbort is ready yet.

Brannstrom:
-his game and has been coming
-ability to make that one-pass breakout
-got to start getting him more ice time

Line-Up Changes:
-might be a defensive change but not sure
-isn't certain if Forbort is ready
-Juulsen might play
-put Hoglander with Suter and Sprong; thought they weren't that bad as a unit
-Hoglander needs to get back to what he was and sometimes moving him down the line-up helps
-can switch Hoglander back in-game

OT Goal Against:
-Miller let the guy get by him
-coverage wasn't good

Middle of the Ice:
-giving teams odd-man rushes
-one of the focus in the video today was getting back to preventing rush chances
-if it's a 50/50 puck you need to above the other player

Heinen-Blueger-Sherwood:
-can go against the other team's best lines
-can give best players some mismatches
-all three are responsible players
-protect the slot

Bad OT Record:
-blown coverages and execution
-can't be out there when you're tired
-definitely have to have another meeting about it

Sherwood:
-hitting is contagious
-is an old school guy; goes through people
-no one wants to play against him; need to get more of that from some other players

Joshua:
-getting close to being pain free
-doesn't know the exact date
-took some line rushes but needs to get some 3-on-3 stuff
-will need to manage his minutes and make him feel comfortable in certain situations
-has dealt with what happened really well
-can go anywhere in the line-up and knows Garland likes playing with him
-briefly talked about a conditioning stint but haven't talked to Joshua about it yet; might just get him in the line-up

Powerplay:
-struggles have nothing to do with coaching
-has been given really good structure
-players need to play with more intensity and awareness
-sometimes when you're talented, you think you can skill your way to a goal
-don't have a good taste in their mouth
-analytics have shown him that they are one of the worst teams at picking off pucks rimming off the glass
-if you beat pressure, you need to attack
-weren't good at goals off chaos plays last season
-going to change a couple of things on entries; bring it up with a couple of different guys
-entries are about supporting the puck and speed
-knew Carolina was going to stack the one side but kept stick-handling to that side
-have the information but need to apply it

Pettersson's PP One-Timer:
-can't stand still
-have talked to Pettersson about moving his feet
-the one-timer is not there so need to move your feet to find other ways to score

Demko:
-has had 4 really good days
-stacking some consecutive days together

Lankinen:
-strong, game after game, of good efforts
-locked-in even during practice
-is grateful for the opportunity
-talking to the team about the team's breakouts
-was in early this morning doing video with goalie coach

Silovs:
-hasn't decided the starter for tomorrow

Interesting that they want Petey to use his PP one-timer even less than he is...I feel like they're passing too much right now and not pulling the trigger in the slot and circles, it's often Hughes taking the shot. I miss seeing Petey's one-timers and wish they brought that play back a bit more, it seems like teams know he's in a bit of a slump and not really covering that shot immediately for now.
